Herbstreit weighs in on espn radio..

"It's to early to say but talking to his sources it's going to get really bad for Auburn in the end....Cam Newton will go on to the NFL after the season and could careless what happens...AU will be the school that will get hammered for this and if some of the things being said comes out to be true and AU knew and paid for Newton and it sure seems to be smoke there...you will be talking about killing off a program for the next 10 yrs the way the NCAA will hammer them"

I wouldn't get too excited. Herbie's jumped the gun before...

It amazes me how badly the non-Auburn people want this to be true.

On second thought, no it doesn't. Fans of teams who Auburn has beaten and/or will beat want to soften the blow by believing Newton is ineligible.

That makes sense.

Anyone have any details on Cecil Newton's church renovations? Apparently the church in small town GA was slated for demolition due to excessive code violations. The church is now renovated and up to code according to Rival's Radio. Where did renovation monies come from? Why such a large cash infusion into the church coffers, all of a sudden? The timing certainly seems suspicious.

well, if they came from auburn boosters, all they have to do is say that they belong to that church.

Is this one of those investigations that will take 5 years like the USC/Bush investigation?

I know. This is where the story probably dies. The NCAA has no right to audit the church books and the church donors will certainly (??) keep a tight lip.

But the timing of this, along with the Utah AG going to the DOJ to investigate the big six, the IRS may get thrown into the mix. What a grand time to break this. If the government wants to burn down the BCS this could help fuel the fire.

being that it's a church, it will be just fine. there is no timeline to donate to the lord.

The timing of the story breaking. And if this went down, as we all know, there will have been way too many people involved to keep everyone quiet. Loose lips sink ships. And AU is steaming ahead like the TITANIC.
