I've read some pretty silly shite in my time, but this takes the cake.

Hmm... cut - paste

re: Nick Fairley featured by FOXSportsHouston.com (Posted on 1/25/11 at 4:17 p.m. to tigerbait1970)
Wow

quote:
Mega sports agent and good friend of mine, Cook Buss, signed Fairley. Before Cook would sign Nickolas he made him take a polygraphics test administered by one of the TSA’s top graphics. Nick passed every question that was asked of him. The test is on CC video and has been sent to every NFL team, including Detroit. In Busses’s opinion, Fairly can have a better career than Warren Sapp. That is not me talking, that is Cook. He says Nick has the strength of John Dutton. a faster first step release than Dan Hampton and is as swim move accurate as Tom Poston. On top of that, he is 6’4” 310 pounds and has been clocked at a 4.48 40 yard dash. Cook told me Nick scored a 27 the first time he took his practice Wonderlic exam. I hope NF falls to the Buccaneers but I think after the Combine, he could be the first player taken in the draft.

That's not correct.

(1) The CIA still relies very heavily on it's policy of regular polygraph examinations for employees. (They do use an independent 3rd party source).

(2) The FBI administers polygraphs to new employees - at least they did when they recruited me in law school. According to their website, passage of a polygraph is still a mandatory requirement:

I guess I'm going to have to partially backpedal here. There are two sorts of polygraphs: analog and digital. Most people think of analog polygraphs when they see one - and those are arousal sensors. They are not reliable.

Digital are more than arousal sensors - but are still only slightly more than 50% reliable. Those are the ones that are used on federal employees. They are not used on criminal defendants without their permission. More later.

Polygraphs are more reliable than people think. Don't buy into some of the rhetoric out there, particularly the admonition that they are "inadmissible in court"

No. They aren't. I guess you didn't catch your criminal procedure class while you were in law school (I'm in it right now). Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals. 509 U.S. 579.

Even if, as some jurisdictions allow, polygraphs can be relevant as evidence, I'm fairly certain that it won't get past a FRE 403 objection... or at least it won't on appeal. If you want to argue this any further we can have a lovely dialogue about the Federal Rules of Evidence...

To others: I never said he cheated. I don't give a crap about his character. I was just mentioning that polygraphs are unreliable.

We have been dealing with some very aggressive Negative Recruiting from our rivals

The funniest thing i found about the whole thing was in a different part of the article, he states "As you guys know, Coach Saban would never negatively recruit". I found that just hilarious. Saban wouldn't have the audacity to ever sink that low (insert Bobbie Massie). If anybody doesn't believe that their staff at least does some negative recruiting, then they need to get looked at.

I think Cam Newton is the best college player I have ever seen. With that said this little excerpt makes me...

If only that link came from the a fired NY Times writers source or an ESPN source...then everyone would believe the polygraph test story.
