Jeff Holland deserves to be on the list above any of those guys.

The LSU team has 582 tackles.

The Bama team has 506 tackles.

LSU's defense is probably 15% better than Alabama's.
That is a lot more defensive production.
Is this how it works?

I'd assume they are looking at him as a rush end. Doesn't the Butkus usually go to a guy that basically plays the middle (or some variation of a traditional LB who doesn't play with his hand in the dirt)?

What a lazy attempt at an analogy. One of the few statistics used to compare LBs is tackles. They aren’t (for the most part) rushing the passer and they aren’t (for the most part) defending the pass. Nobody would ever look at tackles as a way to compare entire defenses, but you knew that.

Only 1 of the nation's LB's averaging 10.0 TPG or more made the list.

1. Frank Ginda - San Jose State (13.8 TPG)
2. Khalil Hodge - Buffalo (13.2 TPG)
3. Joe Dineen Jr - Kansas (12.1 TPG)
4. Josey Jewell - Iowa (11.6 TPG)
5. Dalton Herrington - New Mexico St (11.3 TPG)
6. Joel Lanning - Iowa State (10.9 TPG)
7. Azeez Al-Shaair - FAU (10.6)
8. Christian Sam - Arizona State (10.0)
9. Jaylyin Minor - Cincinnati (10.0)
9. Devin White - LSU (10.0)

This Dalvin White guy has racked up a significant majority of his stats by jumping on the pile and help ride the ball carrier down to get credited with an assisted tackle. By far most of his tackles are assists.

So you should like him. Jumping on teams to ride them while they are succeeding is your thing.

Evans has been hampered by a groin injury and missed three games. This has more to do with potential than production. He is in the list it's not like they awarded him yet.

Not an excuse. Bama fans wouldn't let LF7s injury be an offensive excuse. We aren't allowing this one. He sucks. Just deal with it. He's only on the list because the voters feel obligated (I.e. Threatened) to put people from Bama on the list.

He has more disruptive plays for loss in 6 games (most of which he exited in the 3rd qtr) than White does in 8.

We'll hold onto him.

You got me! Ha.

Would rushing ypa be a good comparison for a defense? How about an ILB corp?

In conference play (in an attempt to get commonality), Bama is 2.06 yards per rush.

In conference play, LSU is 5.2 yards per rush.

Which team do you feel has the better linebackers?
Which team do you feel might not have a midseason Butkus Watch List candidate?

Yea - I think % of tackles made is probably a better stat, but that's not readily available and you have to rely on PFF or CFB Film Room for those.

It's still impressive because that's a ton of tackles and White should be on a list like this. However, Rashaan Evans is never going to average 10 or 11 tackles a game. Reuben Foster was as good a LB as I've seen at Alabama and he averaged 7.7 TPG last season and 4.9 TPG in 2015.

The DL has as much or more to do with a successful run defense. If your line is dominant like Alabama's always is, then it makes the job of the LBs much easier. And as a unit, of course Alabama has better LBs than LSU does. Individually, White would be a monster on any defense.
