Can you link the post that I stated I didn't want Pearl at AU?

I don't think he will go there, just my opinion. Would be an amazing hire if they do get and keep him.

Like 1% of any top 300 recruits don't play AAU basketball.

Bruce Pearl is a guy who could be seen at every major AAU tournament.

That's not what I'm talking about.

There are plenty of AAU programs who do not steer players to the school's of shoe choice.

Coaches can go and watch them play HS games.

Auburn being an UA school isn't as big of a hindrance as Auburn being Auburn.

I agree but you have to admit that recruiting in the basketball world can be a different animal even compared to recruiting in football. A lot of it in basketball is all about the dime. Many of the big players in college basketball are in on the AAU stuff neck deep. It can be a dirty business and many regard it as a necessity and part of the process/game. A lot of people have their hands in the cookie jar because they are benefitting financially.

You don't have to say it. I can smell your fear. The stench is all over this thread.

Correct. It is like an engrained part of the system. If you are not involved in the system you are at a disadvantage.

I mean anyone think there might be more than a slight coincidence between Andrew Wiggins picking Kansas and a rumor about them wanting to offer him a $180 million shoe deal once he turns pro.

"Phillip Marshall"

Such an Auburn homer that he dyed his teeth orange.

Auburn isn't going to be in on a Andrew Wiggins type player no matter what shoes they wear.

Auburn is at best going after Andrew Wiggins 2nd best teammate. It is more about providing access to those guys. Makes it a little easier when you have their brand but not monumental change

I agree. It is a hindrance but not as big of a deal as some try to make it out to be. Barbee was a Nike AAU specialist so it hurt him more than it would most coaches.

Dude Andrew Wiggins' ball boy would be a talent upgrade compared to our roster. No one is talking about getting the top recruit in the country.

So, really, the blame would be placed on the AD for his failure at Auburn.

You don't hire a guy who doesn't/hasn't shown the ability to recruit and develop talent capable for your program.

Him being a "Nike AAU specialist" would cause me to take his name off the list immediately for an opening at my school if I were an AD at a non-nike school.

Nike only pushes the elite players to Nike schools. Access to camps and tourneys is where it hurts Auburn but those issues can be worked around by visiting players at home or at their high schhols.

Pelphrey tried to blame his recruiting on us being an Adidas school at that time.

Truth is he was a poor evaluate of talent (off the court mainly) and weak recruiter with a weak recruiting staff. He recruited a guy who's basketball coach and AAU coach told him not to offer a scholarship as he would do nothing but hurt the program off the court, sure enough...

Like Barbee he had a huge issue with attrition in the program.

Mike Anderson gets knocked on for recruiting via connections outside of the AAU, some will make it out to appear he has the largest family on the face of the earth because every decent player is "kin to him".

He has kept in touch with former team mates and players from when he was an assistant, now is recruiting or has recruited several of their kids, their kids friends, etc. Portis had a connection to Corlis who has known him since the 2nd grade, Gulley is Ronnie Brewer's nephew, for example.

Its doing the same networking without having to deal with guys like world wide wes basically.

It basically starts up after the Florida/Kentucky game on ESPN.

The NIT bracket show is on ESPNU.

The frustrating part about SEC basketball recruiting is I vividly remember a time in the 80s and 90s when mostly every team in the conference was consistently sending talent to the NBA. LSU, Alabama, Arkansas (when they joined the league in 1992) Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, Georgia, and of course Kentucky consistently had players drafted. Now hardly anyone from other than Kentucky and Florida players get drafted.
