Bruce Pearl is made for a football first school and he knows it. He gets attendance results, gets a huge fanbase excited about something previously an afterthought and wins with little expectations
He isn't a UK kind of guy. Sure he would have success but not the type he would at a small bball school that could use his skills better

So basically exactly what I said.

Submitted before done but He increased attendance some 7-8k. He also won in men's basketball which had never been done consistently at UTk. Every school in SEC has potential due to huge fan bases to sell out and win. People show up when you consistently provide quality products. Just nobody does it in the SEC. Pearl did it and got fans excited

Yes what you said but he still is an elite coach if he adds one more success story.

Again he would be a tremendous hire for basically any school in the league not named Kentucky. I'm just saying this board treats him like he is the second coming of John Wooden.

I just think that for the majority of SEC schools , giant public universities with passionate fan bases who look at basketball as offseason sport, he is a near perfect candidate due to on court high levels of success and program building he does. You are right he isn't john wooden good but he would do for some programs what some elite blue blood coaches couldn't given the sotiuation

In Missouri's defense we hired Mike Anderson, and then replaced him with Frank Haith.
Our standards are quite low

This would be a walk off grand slam hire.

Totally agree. Tradition, facilities, etc matters so much less in basketball than in football. Basketball recruits primarily care about three things: 1. Will I get playing time?, 2. Can I go to the NCAA tournament at this school?, 3. Can this coach get me in the NBA?
If you can provide all 3 of those things to a recruit, just about any school can be successful. There are maybe 5 schools in the country that could consistently sell out with a below average team.

1) Billy Donovan
2) John Calipari
3) Bruce Pearl
Donovan is by far and away the best coach in the conference.

No question. Calipari can be in his league if he is willing to admit that he needs to sprinkle his roster with guys like Aaron Craft, Trevor Releford, etc and build the team around them.

Big SEC schools have the budget to pay a coach to come. They also have the massive built in fan base from football. They easily could get 10-15k per game if they were a winning team.

FIFY. For What Cal has every year, he usually under-achieves. Pearl does much more with less, much more consistent.

I don't know, he had a string from Memphis to UK where he was Elite 8 or better every year but 1 for 7 years.
Also, he has to turn freshman players into a team that can win 6 games in a row against top competition. Hard to get young immature guys to grow up and play fundamental basketball consistently compared to guys in your system.

Petrino - no
Jimbo - no
Pearl - no
when he is allowed to coach
give me an underachieving coach winning National Titles over an overachieving coach fighting for conference titles.

But you have Grant...so...take that.

Pearl is not a better coach than Cal.
It will be very interesting to see what he does if he ends up at a place like Auburn.
His first 3 years at Tennessee he pressed and played at a very fast pace. Teams were not very efficient, but they found a way to consistently beat teams that weren't as talented because he inherited probably the best shooter in modern SEC history that could produce offensively.
Those teams earned a 2 seed, 5 seed and 2 seed. He never advanced past the sweet 16 though and the roster was getting filled with athletes moreso than shooters. So he went to a half-court system both offensively and defensively.
His final 3 teams were filled with 4 and 5 stars, but they were absolutely awful in the half-court offensively outside of a 3 month stretch in 2010 where Chism and Prince carried them to the elite 8.
I think at a place like Auburn he will need to return to pressing. His flex offense is definitely not his strength.
