Let's revisit this post after this season.

I mean this entire discussion started as a result of LSU fans claiming BK did a great job with what he had to work with.
I wasn't in on that part. But yes. I would agree that he did a wonderful job with what he had.
quote:There were a lot of teams that had depth problems. I mean, they may have had more bodies, but a ton of teams had a bunch of bodies that would never be on the field in the SEC. If you argue otherwise, then you turn the spotlight on Kelly for not taking more bodies out of the transfer portal.
You've claimed several teams were in the same position so I'm just asking which teams were in the same place as LSU, specifically?
I would say LSU, with only 70 players pobably still had more talent than vanderbilt. Maybe Mississippi State.
Temple
Tulsa
Memphis
Boston College
Virginia Tech
I mean, even with a full compliment of players LSU probably had more talent than they did and head to head LSU would have beaten them.
But if you are trying to get people to say that Kelly did a good job with a roster lacking numbers.....yes. I would say that. Did he have the depth to stick with Georgia, Ohio State and some others? No. But don't act like LSU was devoid of talent just because they had 70 scholarship players. I mean how many players are taken on the road for any one team? 70 is the answer.
ETA
And by the way. It's a troll thread by an alter.

I mean I don't think anyone was saying LSU didn't have talent just that Kelly did a great job considering thr circumstances.
The main points I was debating with DrewDawg was the fact that LSU was at a talent/numbers disadvantage to most of the better CFB teams and that LSU is a more elite program than Notre Dame modern day.

I started this thread to rub the fact in that your coach has never won a big game.

What is your definition of a "big game?"

Has he ever won a natty, a power 5 conference championship, or a playoff game?
It only took Kirby 2 seasons to win the SEC.
BK had a chance to win the ACC in ‘20 and failed to. He failed to win the SEC last year. He’s had chances to win a natty and playoff games. Guy just can’t get it done.

So basically Kelly is 0/2 in P5 conference championships while Kirby is 2/7.
Yikes.

Actually Kirby is 2-3 in SEC Championships. He’s 2-1 in national championship games and he’s 5-1 in playoff games. He’s also 3-0 agains BK.
How has BK done is playoff and national championship games? What were the scores in those games? Were they close?

Exactly.
He's won 2 P5 conference championships in the 7 years he's coached in a P5 conference.
Conversely, BK has won 0 in 2 years.

And BK has had multiple opportunities to win playoff games and nattys. Never won a single game. He’s also 0-3 against Smart.

Well no.
He's never had elite resources or talent.
The teams he lost to in playoff/national championships were a combined 41-1, no one beat those teams except for the Heisman winner.
2018 Clemson beat Alabama just as bad as they did Nore Dame.
If anything, BK's teams have overachieved.

He never had elite resources or talent at Notre Dame? Lol. It’s not like he was coaching at Ole Miss.

No, Notre Dame doesn't have SEC level resources.
Why do you think LSU poached their head coach and Alabama poached their OC?
Posted on 5/6/23 at 5:36 pm to SidewalkTiger
Notre Dame has elite resources. BK was lying to himself by choosing LSU. He thinks LSU is the ticket to a championship when, in reality, he’s just a mediocre coach. Unless he catches lightning in a bottle and finds another Joe Burrow, yall will fire him in the next two years.

Actually no, they don't.
SEC programs are poaching their coaches.
They haven't even won a major bowl game in 30 years.

I remember all of the Notre Dame fans talking about BK being a lazy recruiter when they had the #3 class and then NSD happened and their class plunged to #12, just like BK's classes.
Notre Dame is trying to compete on name alone, their facilities and resources are not up to par with the elite programs in this country.

You're such a dumb motherfricker.
quote:
Kelly pointed to one specific difference between LSU and Notre Dame in that regard: LSU has a nutrition center, dining hall and chef dedicated solely to the football program and the players.
"We don't have that," Kelly reflexively told the AP about Notre Dame. "(Notre Dame hands) out food that’s pre-cooked."
TV dinners = elite resources
