That sucks.
It is an ongoing problem in baseball. Pitchers are reaching the limitations of what can be done with a human body when it comes to throwing. You can only throw so hard so many times before something gives way.
Thankfully modern surgery techniques usually allow pitchers to bounce back but it sucks for this young man to have to go through that.

It really amazes me that a high school kid would have to undergo Tommy Johns surgury. How many throws would he have to make that would do so much damage to cause that.

He was looking like our saturday guy. hopefully he bounces back well for 2021

It’s weird because he didn’t throw that many innings for state last year

I personally think this is the result of poor coaching in form not from how hard someone throws or how many pitches they throw.
Many modern pitching coaches want lower release levels to help improve deception or change the angle of the pitch to the plate. This results in most modern pitchers throwing with their elbow coming through below the shoulder. This has been a known no-no for many decades.
Getting back to kids throwing over the top and utilizing more lower body will fix almost all of this.

I think, particularly when it comes to younger pitchers who haven't really learned how to take care of their arms yet, that you should count on at least one of them to go down with an injury on a team.
When you are that age you think you are invulnerable and that you can throw the ball a billion miles an hour every time you pitch.
The good news is that Tommy John's surgery has advanced to a high degree. There is every reason to think he should bounce back from this and have a great year in 2021 and then have a shot at MLB afterwards.

He gave us some good innings last year. I knew it was bad when a pitcher walks off the mounds without a trainer or coach pulling him off the mound.

Wishing the young man a speedy recovery.

At this point I'm more surprised when a kid doesn't need TJ repair.
It's part of the territory these days.
Hopeful the young man makes a full recovery

This wasn't a huge problem 25-30 years ago.

It’s not just from HS pitching. Most of these kids have been in Select/Travel leagues And Showcase teams since they were 12 years old.
The possibility exists for a lot of these kids to play year round with no breaks. In their early teens this is murder on pitchers. Lots of college coaches have been very vocal about how select ball is wearing kids out. Yet they still recruit heavily based on select ball performance.

You really think so? I thought he would've been our midweek starter but I didn’t keep up with summer ball and fall ball that much. I’m really hoping the light turns on for Cerantola and he solidifies himself as the #2 behind Ginn.
Man I’m ready to talk some baseball

I am here to talk baseball just about everyday. From everything I had read, he was looking at a weekend spot because of how well he pitched towards the end of the season and SEC tourney
ETA didnt he shut down LSU in the tourney for 6 innings?
