I agree completely and I'm not implying it is anything inappropriate. I just find it really, really odd that his request was sent at 10:25 PM and he didn't ask "can you meet me tomorrow morning". He asked "can you meet me at the ipf right now". Just odd that Tunsil didn't think it could/should wait. It was important to him, whatever it was.

Pretty sure the IPF is open after hours. and 10:25pm isn't exactly late for a college student.

We've been discussing whether those could be permissible or not for like 3 pages.
Spoiler: nobody knows

quote:The texts imply that there was an agreement in place between the player and J.Miller and when momma's costs exceeded the agreed upon amount and "keep changing" then he had no way of "handling surprise amounts." Tunsil knew who to contact to get momma's bill paid - when the amount exceeded the previously agreed upon amount he told Tunsil to go to Barney.

Good thing the NCAA doesn't punish based only on something that was implied.

The OM fans here could be expert lawyers they could spin the argument so many times it would confuse the shite out the judge to the point where he would say "frick it I don't even care to argue about this anymore"

and everyone here is apparently an expert on the inner workings of the NCAA.
We're just stating that none of us know didly-shite about what's going on.

You don't have a clue about what falls under the "essential expenses" part of the SAF. Don't get me wrong...neither do I.
I get your argument but come on, it is highly unlikly that this would fall under simple living expenses for a student-athlete. Now, I'm not saying the NCAA should punish you on this just because it looks bad. But I think everyone that is being honest with themselves would say that this most likely was against the rules.

That is probably spot on.

True but I also think you guys are making things wayyyyyy more complicated than what it is tbh. In the end, the NCAA can interpret this however the hell they want and rule on it as such. Also its important to take this into consideration, the NCAA does care about what the public thinks and will also judge in a manner to where they won't fall into a lot of public scrutiny. So that alone is definitely not good for Ole Miss.

Not denying any of this.

quote:While I don't think they deserve to get punished for something so trivial, I do think it sets a dangerous precedent. Schools can't afford to pay living expenses for their student-athletes parents. Most schools operate in the red and can barely pay the expenses included in a full ride scholarship.

The NCAA wants a level playing field for all programs and just because OleMiss can afford to pay the utility bills for parents doesn't mean every other program can afford to do so.

No team in the SEC is poor when you start looking at College Football in general.
