This is only the second time we’ve not been in the playoff, and the first time we did have some opt outs. And that’s fine. They just moved on and didn’t go to the Outback Bowl or whatever it was. Bryce and Will are two-time team captains. I think they felt responsible to the teammates that voted them captain to play. That’s just my opinion.

sorry for necroing this thread, but with what you're saying; there is a tension. that tension is "if this guy was disloyal to his college program, how disloyal will he be in the NFL?" when it's a clear first rounder in the Bologna Bowl and they sit out that's fine. some kid sniffing around for NIL money on his third school won't get a nuts offer from any pro team because they've proven they're a full on mercenary.
IMO, and I think I said this, if you get that NIL money to play for a certain school you're a professional and conctractually should be abliged to play every game

We're brothers and we're in each other's fight song. For more than a hundred years, T+1 was the biggest game between teams within the state.
Not playing the game opened the door for other schools like TCU and Baylor to make hay against both schools. 3 of Baylor's 10 conference championships came since 2013. TCU had a share in 2014 and is the first non-OU B12 team in the CFP. Good for them for taking advantage.
To win national titles, we need to lock down the state. Can't do that if there's no clear alpha school. Texas playing A&M will restore order in the state, and whoever can go on a streak will establish a dominant position.
Either that or the Longhorn Network is cursed.
