The divisions didn't exist in 1932

True.

But it was always 6 teams. And that even number of power teams meant splitting into two divisons was feasible.

When divisions were created it was necessary to balance the divisions by putting half of the Big Six in each division. This is precisely why the Big XII failed and why the B1G is struggling with their poorly contrived divisions that make no geographic sense. The Big XII was really the Big 3 and it's very hard to divide 3 evenly. Try it sometime. So Nebraska just left. You have to use a mnemonic device just to remember who is in the B1G divisions. Everyone knows that shite just isn't sustainable.

It's simple, rational and it works.

Whether we stay the whole 4 quarters or not we still buy the tickets.

It's perfectly apt for my argument when people are trying to nose their way into the big 6 without any merit.

The blooded is unnecessary. According to you A&M can win 6 SEC titles over the next 20 years and we still wouldn't be in the Big 6.

Either you can get in with merit. Or you can't get in (like an original colony)

When the Big 12 was formed the power team were Nebraska, Colorado, K-St, and A&M.

It was feared the B12 North was too tough and would dominate the South

If that happens that changes things.

You'd probably also need to bring home a crystal ball or at least win a BCS game or two.

Some would argue that Ole Miss was once Big Six and Florida took their spot. Very hard to argue that Florida was Big Six material prior to a certain Heisman Trophy winner's arrival on campus. And I'm not talking about Tebow.

Who knows... maybe JFF is your Spurrier. He'll do great things as a player and come back to rape and pillage the conference as the Ol' Ball Coach.

You're allowed to dream...

Are you trying to tell me that Kansas State during their time in the Big 8 was the equivalent of a Big Six SEC team?

Seriously Clark?

How old are you?

Love how you left out Texas, by the way.

That alone tells me all I need to know about your ability to put down your maroon colored glasses and see the world as it actually is.

The big six have both historical and monetary merit.

The little 8 can offer monetary merit, but the fact of the matter is that the strength of the conference wouldn't exist without the Big 6 establishing the historical legacy that they did.

Don't really understand why the concept is so difficult to comprehend.

If this is really the "big 6" of the SEC you need to replace the vols with Texas A&M.

Living in Austin I have no idea how they make so much money. The apathy in this town for their team is thicker than the traffic.

The Big 12 formed in 1996. Here is what Kansas State was doing at that time:

1994: 9-3
1995: 10-2
1996: 9-3
1997: 11-1
1998: 11-2
1999: 11-1
2000: 11-3
2001: 6-6
2002: 11-2
2003: 11-4

Not too shabby.

They may be apathetic toward the football team, but they LOVE their burnt orange.

Exactamundo.

I'm now really starting to appreciate Bella's love of history now.

And I'll say this (though I'm sure I'll regret it)... of the non Big Six teams, the Piggies have the best history and it isn't even close.

Since 1932, Arkansas clocks in at 23rd in win percentage. Bama is 4, Tennessee 7, Georgia 13, LSU 14, Auburn 16 and Florida 17. Ole Miss 31, A&M 40, Mizzou 54, Carolina 74.

The aforementioned K-State is 104th, by the way. Colorado is 37th. Just ahead of Texas Tech.

This is a great article from a few years ago that properly explains the Big 6 for the newbs

It also compares the SEC to the other conferences.

You don't know what you're talking about. A&M had beat Texas 10 out of 12 years when the Big12 formed.

Thought the Big 6 was about championships? Only Bama has more conference championships of current SEC teams ;)
