UT...

My point was that the whole thing about Rick being a scared bitch in regards to scheduling is nothing short of idiotic. Our OOC scheduling is elite.
This is also objectively wrong. The all time stats are very comparable between the two programs. Their only real advantage on us is the 2008 NCAA runner-up (which they would’ve won if they didn’t choke at the foul line.) But the stats are in this thread, and generally the differences are marginal with UT leading some categories and Memphis leading others.

all time, definitely Memphis.

Memphis has 16 more NCAA tournament wins.

No it isn't.
They have 4x the number of Elite Eights, a Final Four and a National Runner up (these last two you have ZERO of). Look, I get it, you're stumping for your team, but it isn't close. Memphis has way more prestige. Compare banners. Just don't pay attention to your women's banners.

Rick Barnes is a bitch. Every time I hear something this guy has said it's something about not wanting to play some team or another. What a pussy.
Rick Barnes & Tennessee schedules better than anyone in the conference not named Kentucky. Not only do they schedule some of the best teams in the country, they're beating those teams in many cases. The Rant and the basketball world at large understands that your basketball program has been dead for the better part of 20+ years with no wins against elite teams in eons, but atleast be accurate with the lies that you're spewing.
To the OP -- The answer is Memphis (Despite them having a losing record H2H vs UT and getting crushed in their own place by Barnes last year). Tennessee is making a lot of noise these days, but they're still behind Memphis in terms of accolades.

Nope.

It 100% is factually wrong. That was one run with a vacated team. shite, while we’re at it, might as well say South Carolina is a better all time program than Tennessee because of one postseason run as well. I’ll say this: had Memphis actually won the title, that would be enough to give them a definitive edge on Tennessee, because they would have a natty and UT wouldn’t. But as it stands right now, the two programs are very comparable and an argument can be made for either being better all time than the other. Cherry picking a few stats to claim that one is MILES better than the other is just factually and objectively incorrect.

Memphis actually has two of these.

Nonsense. You overlooked the fact that Memphis has 4x as many Elite Eight trips as Tennessee. That isn't one run, man.
And besides all of that, you wanna know why Memphis has more prestige beyond those things already mentioned?
Because I fricking said so. Prestige is a perception thing. And people outside the state of Tennessee see Memphis as the better program. I'm sorry that hurts your feels, but it's just the way it is.
You can try and tell me I'm 100% factually wrong or whatever, but I don't give a shite. I'm done talking about it. Memphis has a better program. Sorry.

Take a look at the replies to this tweet. If perception is your argument, Tennessee appears in far more responses than Memphis.

If UT ever makes a Final Four, then we’ll talk. Until then, the records are not comparable. Elite 8, Final Four and Championship appearances are where it’s at. UT has a grand total of 1 Elite 8.

Since when do they hand out trophies for final 4s?
Posted on 12/11/19 at 11:15 pm to misey94
So finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th is where it’s at? Makes sense. Clearly USCjr, Auburn and Georgia are superior programs to TN then as well since first, second and third losers are the true measure of success.

College basketball programs are judged by how many of each of those tournament games they make and how many conference titles they win. It’s a given that titles are the biggest litmus test, but you go down the list when comparing most programs outside the top 5. It’s pretty obvious that UT is lacking in most important measures of a program. I’m sorry that you aren’t smart enough to comprehend this.

Are you fricking serious? I’ve put my eyes on three of them in Memphis’ locker room at the Forum. At least before they renovated it this summer and moved them all back to campus.
Yes. They give out trophies for teams that WIN THEIR REGION in the tournament. They always have. Maybe you aren’t aware, but schools even hang banners for them. Shocking, right?
Do you know anything about college basketball?

Tennessee has lost 4 second weekend games by 2 points or less or in OT in the past 12 years.
Keep giving yourself a chance and eventually you will break through.
Judging programs by such a narrow measure in such a fluky tournament setup (which is what makes it great) can lead you to some very bizarre conclusions if you insist on dealing in absolutes. I don’t think anyone believes Loyola Chicago is a better program than Xavier or Paul Hewitt is a better coach than Matt Painter.
