Well, considering Tennessee fans outnumbered LSU fans almost 4-1, I'm counting the Georgia Dome in 2001 for the SEC Title. Tennessee fans were the absolute worst, especially the ones at the World Congress Center before the game. Rudest, most arrogant, confrontational group of people I've ever seen.

It was so sweet beating their arse and keeping them out of the Rose Bowl as a lot of those jackasses had orange roses.

Best may have been Kentucky in 1991. Great parking, and honestly nobody did or said anything out of the ordinary. I don't need the Welcome Wagon when I go to another city. No one has to offer food or anything. But nobody started any nonsense or any silliness which by not doing such, scores high marks in my book.

2008 @ UT. Had a blast on Friday. We started out at some restaurant where you can cook your own steak. Then went out to the bars. We wound up in an older section of town that had a lot of cool bars (not downtown but near the world's fair park). Everyone was cool. We had a large group and pretty much took over every bar we were at. We were thrown out at the end of the night for doing rammer jammer but we deserved to be and it was time for taxis anyway. The tailgating before the game kinda sucked but none of us had ever been before so we just found a bar and set up shop (it was actually the bar that the UT players got in trouble for a couple of years later). Game was fun (we kicked their arse).

Honorable mention would be 2009 @ UK.

Worst

1999 @ Auburn. Walking from the apartment we were at to the tailgate was terrible. People were total a-holes before the game. A couple of guys stole a shaker from one of the girls that was with us. People getting in our faces yelling. When we got to the tailgate, it was very close to the stadium and had an older crowd and more families. One of the guys with us was from an Auburn family and we met up with them. Had a good time there. The game was good as Shaun Alexander absolutely destroyed their D in the 2nd half. After the game everyone was a tough guy and wanted to fight the people in crimson. We did our best to avoid confrontation and got the hell out of that shithole.

A funny story about that game is I didn't even have a ticket. The guy that was with us that had Auburn family had a cousin that was working the gates. We found his gate and I just strolled in. Went and found my buddies who had tickets and just squeezed in to their row. Someone complained to the cops and they came to check it out but I found a stub someone had dropped and showed it to them and they left us alone.

Sounds like you were at the Butchershop (great place) and the Old City bars. If you ever come back try to find The Crown and Goose. It's a pub and it's a pretty awesome place.

you picked good places to go. Knox has some really good bars and restaurants if you venture off the strip and head downtown.

Funny Knoxville story - I was up there on business a few years ago and had a girl with me who was an AU grad. We were driving by some restaurants/bars in downtown and spotted a ton of UT fans/students walking wearing UT gear. Then she and I had this brief convo:

Me - "Hey Melissa, stick your head out the window and yell Roll Tide at that group"
Her - "No way! Besides, if I wanted to make an idiot of myself I would yell War Eagle any way"
Me - "Yes you would"

Probably the Iron bowl this year. Got there and drank with friends before the game. during the game me and my friend were surrounded by bama fans even though we were going crazy we still had fun with them. and of course afterwards was a blast

Worst.

Haven't really had a bad road experience. I've only been to t-town and oxford though.

@ Auburn 2010 - a lot more friendly atmosphere. even had an Auburn fan come up to me and my buddy after the game asking if we had a good time and say that sometimes they get a bad rap as fans but he wants us to know they're not all like that.

Thats odd, normally I thought we have a pretty good reputation. Aside from the outliers that all fanbases have. Normally we invite opposing fans to join our tailgate and want to make sure they are having a good time.

I won't defend a douche frat dude though.

Worst:
2009 Auburn: Went to their student union after the game to buy a coke out of a vending machine. Was approached by a group of frat guys and literally cussed out. Don't know what I did. But I kept my cool and kept walking. As much as I like Auburn, that kind of pissed me off.

Best:
2008 Florida: First off it was a win. But that whole weekend I never had any trouble with fans. They were offering drinks and food. So I was good to go.

I've never had a problem anywhere I've been. I find the people who usually have problems on the road usually bring it on themselves. Most people aren't assholes irl like most on here try to act.

The only time I have ever even been mad at a game is when lsu was here in 04 and were yelling frick auburn in a big group right outside of tiger walk. Just completely classless and not to mention all the kids that were around that had to hear it.

I had a bama fan in 08 flick me off after the game as I was walking out (as if the beating on the field wasn't enough), but it was just some drunk frat boy who probably didn't even care about Alabama before he got there.

Other than those two, I have never had a problem with another person at a football game

That's pretty damn spot on. However, I think the old drunks don't cause too much trouble. Maybe hurl some insults or whatnot, but nothing physically threatening.

anybody yelling War Eagle in Knox just gets laughed at. But Roll Tide will get a much different reaction.

did this happen right under the assembly center ramp while gameday was filming above you at the top of the ramp because my brother grabbed a sign from some UGA fans and ripped it up? That would be funny if that was your group.

Alabama at Mississippi State in 2007

Even though we lost the game, I was an 18 year old high school senior getting his first "real" taste of college life. I don't really have to go too in-depth on what happened, you can all take educated guesses.

Worst

Alabama at Mississippi State in 2009

The State fans were pissed. I guess they actually expected to win. Very hostile, one drunk dude kept throwing half-drank beer cans at our tent. One of the guys tailgating with us was an ex-Bama walk-on lineman in the early 2000s so that ended rather quickly and without much confrontation. JT Bowtie was tailgating near us and once the State fans caught on to who he was a lot of them kinda swarmed his tent and just ripped his arse (which was kinda funny).

All in all, State fans are just not that cool.

2009 GT The Gnats thought they had us finally so they were heaping on insults. Tech fans came from the woodwork everywhere only to do what they do best, lose to us. Following that the techies really could not handle it like usual. I had 4 fans try to start a fight, many insults heaped on, saw many techies just basically losing it. Probably didn't help that i was talking a little too much trash and was in the tech section. Probably the most hostile a fan base had gotten that I had seen live. Tech fans were ready to reverse the rivalry that night and they were livid things were back to normal. A lot of pissed people that day.

Yeah a lot of the tech students can get pretty rough, but you usually don't see that out of the alumni following for 2 reasons:

1)They've been around the program long enough that when you require your football players to take and pass multiple calculus courses, chances are you won't have the best football program around

2)After being out in the real working world they've also come to realize that though they lose to UGA almost every year, most UGA alumni end up working for Tech alumni

We were on the actual ramp, right after Gameday started filming. Just me and another high school kid in a sea of LSU idiots. We were terrified.

And I had the sign attached to a pole, they grabbed the pole out of my hands and removed the sign.

Worst (tie) -

Jacksonville 2004. First jacksonville experience and I was a freshman or sophomore in high school. Learned real quick how big of dicks gator fans can be and how fricking miserable a city jacksonville is to just sit around and wait for a game for (without beer. I'd learn in 07 and this past year that beer improves the mood a frickton). We won, but it was my least favorite trip I've taken

Georgia Tech, anytime - frick Bobby Dodd and grant field. frick Atlanta. If I'm not there for the SECCG, the Braves, or the Thrashers then I took a wrong turn somewhere.

Best (tie) -

LSU 07 & 08 - Hands down the most fun I've ever had outside of Athens. My first experience in BR was when I was invited by some good family friends to attend the LSU-Auburn game in 07. Aside form the game being great, the pre-game atmosphere, the girls, the campus, all of it inspired me to apply to and almost attend LSU for college. but I didn't. But I did make the return trip the next year for,
UGA-LSU 08 - Stayed in New Orleans on Friday, smoked churchills and drank, ate more than I ever have in my life, took in all that Bourbon has to offer, washed away that regret at 6 the next morning with coffee and beignets before hauling arse up to BR (I should also note that the same family that had treated me so well the prior year also were my hosts this year) and tailgating for the rest of the day. I was decked in my UGA finest, but because of the underwhelming seasons for both UGA and LSU that year, it was all good times and good people. I've looked for reasons to go back every year since
