That's not true. We were the first ones to offer him at the end of that season, and he jumped on it. He had passed on a few offers the year before and regretted passing them up.

Within days from hiring him a shitload of jobs opened up. I think we were lucky to get him when we did. He's a good man and a quality coach.

You mean Oregon State? Interesting he really wanted the Marquette gig but they did not want him.

I know Alabama and Texas both opened up right after we hired him. Think there were a few others that year but to be honest I don't remember.

You arguing that people didn't want Ben Howland is asinine. There is a reason he is universally recognized as a top tier coach.

Where do you get your information? He was the top candidate for the Marquette job. The head of the search committee was at Pitt with Howland and tried to land him. They could not agree on money. Wojo was the back-up plan.

Just read your response. Makes sense. But Marquette couldn't cough up $2 million

He wanted the Marquette job. They wanted him. He wanted more money than Buzz got for going to VaTech. Marquette passed. If they had wanted to pay that much, they would have counter-offered Buzz.

You made it sound like they didn't want him.

We're not getting in the tournament. We would have to go at least 12-6 if not 13-5. Ain't happening. I see 10-8 or possibly 11-7. Next year, we will be nasty and will compete for the SEC.

Yeah the goal for this year has to be to make it and do well in the NIT. We should then have a lot of hype going into next season. Losing one backup pg and gaining two great recruits.

I think the fact so many seem triggered about us having Howland says a lot lol. They are so worried about us having him that they are trying to convince themselves he is leaving soon. Go read all the posts. Yeah, they scared.

You guys have a solid club this season. Arkansas had an off night and the Bulldogs capitalized on it. Saying that though, I was impressed with your team.

You guys just have to schedule better. I mean, your OOC SOS is dang near the bottom of the entire nation at #308.

Yeah I think that was done based on having the youngest team in America and trying to get them as much confidence as possible. Knew the NCAA tourney was a long shot, thus wanted to get some W's early on to help the morale of the team. We've improved a whole lot from the first 6-8 games. Yes, I hope we can make the NIT and gain some more valuable experience there.

They still could have scheduled smarter...Arkansas for example...our bigger name opponent, Texas, is actually a detriment to our RPI. Minnesota isn't, but still.

UT-Arlington, Houston, and North Dakota State are all top 75 OOC RPI wins. Those type of teams State could have likely beaten as well. Its a big difference in the Arkansas OOC SOS(73) and State OOC SOS(308).

With even a 150 OOC SOS, State is likely in the NCAA discussion right now with the other 5 SEC teams.

I'm not unhappy with Coach Avery and I think he's doing a good job with what he's got. But having said that, Alabama missed a huge opportunity to land a proven commodity in Howland. My top two choices to replace Grant were Howland and Mike White. And I am confident that when Marshall rebuffed Bill Battle, Battle was about to screw up that hire until Avery called and expressed interest in the job. Thank you, Coach Avery! #BuckleUp!

Meh..we're still very inexperienced and came into this game with a major hangover. We will beat Tennessee on the 4th in Starkville.

Yes, we will be to deal with next year.
