He fell and busted his arse once in the lobby of the LaPavillon after to many handshakes with Jim Beam.

All of the old time coaches drank like fish.

Neyland, Bear, Jordan, Dye, Majors...all of them

Pat Dye was a drunk and a half. The barners were so impressed with futility, they named a field after him, and the guy had zero national championships.

You'd be hard pressed to find many men of the era from blue collar to boardrooms, outside of the religious teetotalers, that wouldn't have been considered a drunk by today's standards.

That said, he never got so drunk that he lost his pants, so glass houses and whatnot

This isn't very complimentary of Bear honestly. This is also the Democrats game plan.

Auburn finally put him out of his misery.

Sad.

Well OP one of Pat Dye's own players put him out of his misery. His name was Eric Ramsey. So you need to keep all this shite "down home cuz"

It also incorporated the university's decision to separate the positions of athletic director and head football coach, as has been the case since Pat Dye was forced to resign as athletic director in April 1992 and was replaced by Mike Lude. When Dye quit as football coach after the 1992 season, he was succeeded by Terry Bowden. Dye Is Criticized

Although he was not charged with any specific offenses, Dye came under heavy criticism in a finding that the university officials, including Dye, had failed to exert "appropriate institutional control" over the athletic department excesses.

3 packs of unfiltered Chesterfields a day and everything he drank was 90 proof.

Amazing he lived as long as he did. Jesus the Depression era South produced some incredibly tough and rugged men back in the day. Those dudes were hard.
