Southern boys want to call us gay because of male cheerleaders, yet many are homophobic and scared of actual homosexuels.
It is all fun and games to them until you make a joke about how they are right because it is fun to suck dicks and suddenly you have ruined their favorite anti-A&M talking point by connecting it to actual gayness instead of allowing "gay" to just be the generic locker room cutdown they want it to be.
Many of the people here are still stuck mentally in 1987 and its a great source of constant fun.

I just want to know how, seemingly overnight, we went from having the [unfounded and unfair] reputation as being the most gay unfriendly university in the U.S. (see any publication that publishes data on such nonsense) to being Femme U on tSECr?

Easy to explain.
We went from the Big 12 run by the LBGTQ friendly Longhorns where we were judged by their standards. Compared to them we are gay bashers simply because most of us vote Republican.
Then we moved to the SEC where these southern boys can't handle the level of nuance that Longhorns thrive on, so everything got boiled down to a single talking point: "You have male cheerleaders only, therefore you are gay."
Honestly these SEC fans don't know how much of a breath of fresh air the gay thing is compared to us being nazis and all the shite Longhorns call us.

The tradition holds very meaningful (and ironically, blatantly heterosexual) historical significance to our university.
