My grandfather was a survivor of Bataan. He was a POW for 3.5 years. Tough Man to say the very least. Even fought in Korea years later and survived that. Sad thing is drinking got him and a lot of guys that survived much worse..

Bataan has a special place for Aggies btw. The most famous Aggie Muster happened at Corregidor right before it fell and many of the men in this picture never made it home, the rest who survived became legendary figures. That said I agree anything that makes people look it up and understand the sacrifices those men made is a good thing.

Besides the sacrifice for our country... and their status as war heroes...

It is important to note that every man in that picture was alive to see Texas A&M win a national championship... Perhaps some of them were students... and who knows... maybe one of them was a team member.

Don't believe any from the team were there but only 31 of the 89 Aggies in this picture survived. I remember going to the 50th Anniversary Muster where they had some of the survivors present, incredible what those men went through and the sacrifices they endured for their country. The General George Moore award for the best outfit in the Corps is named after General Moore who organized the Muster.

In all about 20k Aggies served in WWII and almost 1000 never came home. More than all of the service academies combined.

State actually played at Southern Miss. It was the third game of a 2-1 deal. And while they have been down recently they have been a thorn in the side of many SEC teams over the decades. So I would not call them a cupcake.

Kind of my point, though. If you beat them - no big deal. If you lose, God help you.

You’d be better off playing a UCLA or North Carolina.

Next Veteran's Day, when you are thinking of him, there will be a Missouri man thankful for his service, too.

Sorry to hear drinking got him. Even today, we still could improve care for our veterans. Back then they got nothing.

Last night I saw an old 1950s film (fictional) about a Korean War POW. One of Paul Newman's first films. It had a message about what it took to withstand the inhumanity of the captors. Pretty good movie.

I have been to the actual site of where it all started. A very humbling experience to say the least. While a kid growing up in S. Vietnam during the war years I heard a speaker once who survived Bataan. I dont recall if he was still active duty or just going around with the USO on speaking tours.

Seems about like the schedule OU has had the last 2 seasons now.
