Firearm + drugs is a felony in Louisiana. Like 5 years in jail felony.

They weren't charged with this, as it stands.

It may be normal for that part of Louisiana, but by Alabama standards, it was extremely lenient for both of them.

Good catch. I didn't realize they had changed the laws. Good for Louisiana.
The gun+weed charges are still pretty serious here though.

Not anymore. It was changed last year, so that up to 2.5 pounds is considered a misdemeanor.
Wonder if that is playing a role in why they aren't being reported as facing a felony for having the guns and weed together?

I'm not arguing that our system is perfect or even the best, just that it is pretty danged high up on the list.
You are correct that our system is among the best. No disagreement there. I just wanted to point out that at least a goodly number of countries do a good job too. But there remain far too many who do not.

Perks of being high profile.

They were charged with this, there's only one statute that covers it. That charge just isn't being treated as a felony, and no one seems to actually know why.

It must not be a felony. Because both most certainly were charged with possession in the presence of a firearm.

I wouldn't be suprised if this charge is added. Once the lab test confirm the substance is actually weed.

Ohhhh okay, I see. Thanks, sorry.
IMO, they are going to see if they "cooperate" and if they don't, then bigger charges will come about.

I just highly doubt that they would hold the charge because they need to "test it." If it looks and smells like weed, cops aren't going to wait for lab tests.

A better question is.. if they had drugs in the car and were in possession of the two guns..
Can they not be charged with it?

Absolutely, for a number of reasons.

I am also curious on the mixed reports. Was it residue or an actual bag of weed.
If it was strictly residue, then maybe it wouldn't be a felony. But then again, residue probably would of been classified as paraphernalia and not an illegal substance.

If I read it right, Jones was released without bond and Robinson's bond was only $750.
Weird, because Al.com reported this:
quote:
Robinson was released from jail on bond $5,750 bond at 7:17 a.m, according to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff Office. Jones was also released on $3,250 bond.

I was just trying to justify why they were not charged with tge second felony, since it is clearly stated in Louisiana law.

You say thugs but they were picked up in a known area for homosexual activity.

If they weren't sitting there smoking weed, wtf were they doing?
