The stolen gun thing is much more troublesome, but sadly it is not that rare these days.
I was told by a local deputy that as long as I pay what most would consider a 'fair' price for a gun (and of course, I didn't have a reason to suspect it was stolen), I would not get in trouble for owning a stolen weapon...I would only lose the weapon and be out my money.
So, if CR claims he paid $100 for a Kimber .45 (just an example) from a random dude who had a bunch of them in the trunk of his car, he's fvckd. If he provide any evidence that he paid a fair price ($50 for a beat-up Hi-Point) for the pistol...he's got a chance.

Most of these kids come from a background where this shite is normal. It's hard to change what they've seen for 18-20 years. You'd think the one thing that would help them shift to the good side would be guaranteed millions of dollars.

Also, were they just sitting there?

According to an affidavit, Officer Sgt. Tommy Crowson said he noticed Robinson and Jones sitting in a parked car in the 2300 block of Sycamore Drive in the city of Monroe.
Crowson said he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and also saw a handgun lying on Jones' lap. According to Crowson, a bag of marijuana was lying on the floor in front of the driver's seat and another handgun was found under the seat.

I agree, as much as I hate to lose him. If he gets charged with a felony there is no way to keep him on the team.

Doesn't matter, Alabama has beaten LSU five straight... Oh, and Tyran Mathieu failed drug tests...

Biggest mistake was not having Luther Davis around as a fall guy.

I wonder what is going on in Chalmette, Louisiana in the late nights.

Yes and no. The current wording is it can be used as a defense, but it's not a slam dunk. Louisiana recommends (but does not require) a notarized bill of sale for private firearm transactions for exactly this reason, to protect both parties. Not having a BOS should not be seen as knowledge the gun was stolen, but in the real world it's probably enough for the DA to twist his arm into taking a deal.
You're deflecting! THIS WILL BE JAIL TIME FOR SURE!
At least, that's the response I've been getting for saying exactly what you did.

Stolen handguns typically have the serial number scratched out, for obvious reasons. I've come across a few when I was gun shopping through friends.
Um, no they don't.
The typical stolen gun looks just like it did the day it was stolen.
Altering the serial number on a gun is a VERY serious criminal offense that gets you guaranteed federal prison time. At the state level, in Louisiana possessing a gun with an altered serial number is an additional felony charge.
Thieves looking to move a stolen gun know very well that the last thing they want to do is mess with the serial number. Doing so renders the weapon all but unsellable.

Yep - and (my guess, at least) the only way they fall back into it is when they go back home and get back into those surroundings.
Frustrating.

So sitting there smoking weed with 2 guns in the car, one being stolen. I can't fathom how one can be so frickin dumb. Even not knowing if the gun was stolen. Why are you riding around smoking were with guns in the car? You're frickin Bama football players, not magnolia project thugs

I completely agree. Forget school rivalry. This kid was a year away from being set for life and made a truly stupid mistake. I spent several years as a part time coach with a local high school and the hardest thing I had to do was to convince them that one stupid mistake could screw up their lives forever. They all thought nothing bad could ever happen to them, personally, no matter how dumb they acted.
I have seen the same. I have watched many kids I taught in the city make stupid decisions that really hurt their future. I have seen good kids who were scared carry guns to school. I have been to way to many tragic funerals of a young person who went to the wrong place with a group of friends and never got a chance to learn how tragic our choices can be.
Most often, young people do not realize the consequences of one stupid mistake. As we get older, we hopefully realize this and grow.

Charged, or convicted? Hasn't he already been charged?

I'm pretty much right in line with what you just said. Don't know why you quoted and responded to me.

Throw them off the team!
Zero tolerance for that crap.

It being the rant is exactly why I think some of these fools believe he's going to do time for this.
