First of all, LSU didn't beat VT in our opener in '07.
We did, however, get spanked by VT in our opener in 2002.
VT is normally very strong early in the season, particularly when they have a seasoned QB coming back. While Tyrod Taylor's numbers aren't great, he helps them win.
I say VT comes out and punches Bama in the mouth early, and Bama never recovers.
VT - 17 Bama - 14
And the Gump world implodes...

Bama will never lose another game. Ever. You heard it first here. Bama 100 - VT - 3.
Seriously though, I don't think this game is predictable at all. VT and Bama and any major program is strong at the beginning of their seasons.
however, every tier 1 team hopes to get some good numbers on a creampuff team.. and because both teams are top tier programs, i think this game will show a lot about both team's personalities. i think the major question here isn't just the win or the loss, it's gonna be how the loser of this game rebounds for the rest of their season.

oh, and without any research on VT's defense at all, i'm gonna say Bama 27 - VT 24.

I am all for the SEC, but I think they clobber Saban the way they did in '02. Too many similarities: Coming off of first good season, expectations are way too high, VT is gonna be good.

I hope Alabama wins in a ugly game, and both teams look awful. Go SEC

I think the "Ace" in this game is Utah. Nothing like being embarrassed, to provide the motivation to get the job done. It will certainly be close for sure, either way. VT will know who they've played when it's all said and done regardless of who wins.

A couple of posters "get it", when they said: "Any SEC team needs to win their OOC games. Makes us all look stronger. Even the dickhead that said it would make LSU's Tuscaloosa win look better was right.
It ain't gonna happen.... but he's right.
