I'm scared. Way too much, "I think Bama should beat 'em." and "VaTech is way overrated"
Where's the hate man?

Their D is definately gonna be scarey good. Top 9 defense last year and will probably just be better. This game will go down to special teams and who can make the most of the opportunities each teams defense can provide them. I think it'll be a 3-4 point win for the winning team(Bama).

For SEC vs. OOC? No hate is pretty much the rule here.

Top 9 defense last year

Yeah, at #7 VT was even better than #9 UF (NC's), #15 FSU (LOSS), #19 Ole Miss (Beat NC's), #28 Miami (LOSS), and #41 ECU (LOSS)

Those stats are so shifty aren't they? I'm starting to worry about this one less and less (in the context of Bama losing)

But, Boston College was #5 (Defensively) by season's end, and wouldn't you have it, the Hokies lost their season opener to them.

It's in the bag, Gumps!

Though, the question still remains: What makes VT better than last year besides one season of experience? Anyone got a stat on experience equaling any number of wins in the following season? What are these "experts" seeing that I'm not?

I was talking scoring defense.

Va Tech was #9 in ppg allowed at 16.7

Florida was 4th

Fsu was 26th

Ole Miss was 20th

Miami was 56th

ECU was 30th in those regards..

BC was 17th at the end of the season.

I'm actually looking for it to be improved. Having finally gotten Kerry Murphy qualified and in school, in addition to a couple of other pick ups and some depth, we should be much improved in this dept. That should help our secondary out this year, which was our weakness on D last season.

Certainly, that's a wise gameplan.

Utah was the alien from outer-f'n-space to everyone in the SEC...regardless of how it was received (we Tiger's revelled in it), their arrival and dominance was unexpected.

If it's a question of Defense: Bama > VT

I hope it makes ours look like last years opening game again. I think this is gonna be a really good game, though. My biggest worry is special teams coverage. We've been erratic on that and the Hokies are always awesome on special teams.

Still though, with the exception of the ntl champs, aren't all of those teams ranked below Va Tech's? And didn't they all beat the Chokies?

Yes, considering the Hokies were ranked triple digits in their offense, it's not surprising. That is why I'm not too concerned about their offense.

that is how they beat LSU in 02. the special teams was garbage and then some friendly calls put them out in front and we could never get going.

That was pretty much how every Saban loss at LSU went though. If Saban gets behind to a team with a good defense, he usually loses. UF, UAB, and ULM all went that way.

Just saying.
