Probably a top 5 OL over past 10 years and you won't miss him! What a douche! That comment proves that you don't know shite about football!

if you really think DJ Fluker is gonna replace Andre Smith with no drop out then you are more of an idiot than your Bama diploma suggests!

They are the favorites due to the easy schedule. Ole Miss and LSU will contend.

You can't judge a kid by the friggin' 'ball he throws.' Hell, our QB threw a pretty good ball...too damn bad he threw it to the other team for 6 too damn, many times.

There's a hell of a lot more to QBing than throwing a pretty pass. Can your back up read D's and look off DBs??? We'll see.

I'll believe it when I see it. You might have a good prospect in waiting, but you'll probably have some serious growing pains next season on the O side of things.

Jarrett Lee throws better balls than Matt Flynn, look how well that's turned out.

Like Flynn?

Flynn already had plenty of experience coming into 2007, and he had already been on the team 4 years.

My take on the Bama QB situation is an amalgam of what everyone is saying here. JPW didn't LOSE games for us this year like he did in the past. He wasn't a world beater tossing the ball around the field a'la Bradford. This is mainly because of the strength of the running games and the package installed by O.C. McElwain. McElroy will be put into the same situations next year. He is headed into his junior year, so its not like he's falling off the turnip truck and asked to step in and play. Physically and passing-wise, he's pretty equal to JPW. His biggest task will be reading the defensive alignments and making sure we are in the right play call.
Losing Smith and Caldwell is obviously a blow, but Saban is bringing in a pretty highly rated JUCO transfer to fill the left tackle spot, which will give Fluker time to develop. We have a redshirt (Barrett Jones) who should push for time at center, if not start.
Rashad Johnson is a gamer and played over his head pretty much his entire career, we have some very good DBs who redshirted or played special teams this year, so I feel good about that spot.

So you're saying, by the time LSU comes to Tuscaloosa, Bama should be fairly strong.

I hope we're strong....but we should definitely have our feet under us by then and know what we're doing with the ball.

Hope spring's eternal for Bama fans...."next year" will always be better than the last!

Any Bama fan that thinks we will not drop off on both O and D have their crimson colored glasses on.

What we did this year was special and lucky. You look at the injuries we had and none of them were major. Plus they happened at time in our schedule when we could afford to sit Andrea and Cody.

Losing a 3rd year QB is going to be HUGH in terms of experience and game management. Will McElroy be better than JPW? Who knows, and nobody can say that he will with the limited time he has been on the field. That is one thing that I wished Sabana would have done more this year was play in McElroy in the 4th quarter more. McElory backed up Chase Daniels at Southlake in TX and wasn't rated that high cause he only got to play his Sr. year. But in that Sr. year he threw for over 5000 yards something like 47 TD's and ran for another 800 yards and 12 TD's. Yes I know that's high school but he can play. Breaking in a new QB in the SEC will always have it's bumps. Look around the league this year and that is the major reason the SEC sucked so back.

Losing Andrea and Caldwell with hurt too. Bringind in supoosedly "stud" new guys is great but you can't replace chemisty on the Oline. Sure they will mesh together as the season goes on but it's a wait and see process. Especially one being a true freshman.

Losing not only 2 OL, we lose two SR. TE in McCall and Walker that were HUGH in the blocking for our dominate running game. Again 3 year players that are hard to replace right away. Yes he have Smelley (Soph), Peek ( GA Tech Transfer JR.) and possibly Preston Dial to replace them but they are an unknown. Smelley played at little this year but not much on blocking downs.

Defense you really can't replace Mt. Cody. Sure Darieus filled in nicely but he isn't the force that demands double teams every play that he is in there. Josh Chapman is good too but he still gives up about 60 lbs from Mt Cody. Plus if Murphy ever gets in school he can fill help fill that void. You can't replace Rashad Johnson. Yes you can put a body in there but you can't replace the leadership and the knowledge of the schemes from the lineman to the LB's to the DB's. Woodall is a hard hitter but don't know if he can lead like RJ did. We can replace Greenwood. He wasn't great but he was consistant. I think there are better talent behind him in Billingsly, Harbin, Davis and possibly Talbert.

Either way the futre is brighter for Bama than it has been in 10 years. Saban should bring in another top 5 class the way it is shaping up.

I can see us going 8-4 or the best 10-2.

Losing Cody would be "HUGH"...but since he's a junior and already saying he's coming back, I'm figuring him to be there stopping up the middle next year.

I'm not saying there won't be some adjustments to be made, but I sure don't expect a wholesale collapse on either side of the ball.

I think this year was their chance to win it all but will weaken for a couple more years. JPW was at his best. They will still be a threat on the ground, but unless they get good QB play, they won't be as productive. They should play good D, may be in contention, but shouldn't win the west.
i agree with this...
