Good post. Unfortunately, this can't be taught, it has to be experienced. Once a fanbase wins a national championship or two, they start to realize the difference between the collection of teams that "almost" won it or "finished just a few points short of" the title, and the team that actually completed the task.
There are thousands of players out there who could make a case that they "should have won" the Heisman, but you either won it or you didn't. And if you didn't, the correct response is to show respect to the one who did.

When Ole Miss knocked off Florida in 2008, the year UF went on to win the championship, did they troll this much?
I'm pretty sure they thought beating the champions on the road was going to propel their program to new heights.
It was like just a year or two later they were beginning what like a 16 game SEC losing streak?
One decent year does not a program make.
