Maybe its your name but I somewhat agree with you.

What you're trying to say is wrong. The people that go to Alabama and Auburn are *generally* the same group of kids. They typically graduate from schools throughout Alabama and are raised together. The huge difference in Alabama and Auburn fans is that a lot of the random people that didn't go to college or random rednecks from other states (looking at you Tennessee) and have no allegiance to anywhere typically wind up cheering for Alabama and making us look bad.

I would say though that Auburn students are typically more country small town Alabama types. Not necessarily rednecks. Most Alabama students aren't redneck at all. Alabama fans is another story.

Bama fans and Auburn fans are the exact same.

Seriously. It's the same damned demographics and everything. Two large public state schools with their own passionate sidewalk fanbases. They're pretty much offering the same basic options for educational paths. I'm guessing they have about the same out-of-state numbers, with Bama perhaps having a slight edge.

Frankly, no fanbase in the SEC has room to talk about the kinds of people who support their school. We're all a bunch of rednecks. Even Vanderbilt draws a significant percentage of its students from the general SE/Eastern Seaboard region. It's hilarious when some people think their own fans are somehow different from fans of the school they hate. At best, one might have more dumbfricks simply because they have a larger fanbase. But the percentages aren't going to change. Anyone who seriously believes otherwise is just a moron trying to deal with poor self-esteem.

Alabama and Auburn students/alums are generally kids that are either from (a) in-state, (b) out-of-state kids of alums or (c) out-of-state from big cities (Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, Texas cities, more than that now for Alabama).

They are basically the same.

Alabama clearly has a larger non-alumni following than Auburn. The non-alumni who are fans of Auburn and Alabama are generally the exact same kind of person, it just so happens that 70% of them are Alabama fans and 30% are Auburn fans. That means 70% of the good, solid working class non-grads are Alabama fans and 30% are Auburn fans. However, it also means that 70% of the redneck non-grads are Alabama fans and 30% are Auburn fans.

That's just how it is. In addition, like yellowhammer said, Alabama has a lot more regional redneck fans (Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia) than Auburn does.

So, in conclusion

- Auburn and Alabama students/grads two peas in a pod
- Auburn and Alabama redneck fans are the same group, Alabama just has 7/10 of the rednecks following them

I'll liken it to the Yankees vs the Mets. Success has gotten the Yankees a larger following than the Mets, but both groups are a bunch of potential Yankee carpetbaggers.

Yep, very similar. I mean, it irritates me sometimes because a lot of them seem to think they have to prove their fanhood by acting totally over the top and outrageous, but I understand that the reason they all exist is because of our success and that 75% of them are just people who grew up loving Alabama like their daddies and are harmless.

I'm just not around the so-called bandwagon portion much. I assume most of those are from far out of state. If I was around them I'm sure I would hate them the most by far.

The latest rumor I've read is that Doug Nussmeier will get the job, not Pruitt.

The more I think about it the less sense it makes. He has been all over the world the last week recruiting, so I'm not sure when he would have had time to go to Hattiesburg to interview (unless it was a phone interview).

The Reddit post where the rumor started has now been removed as well.

I think the rumor was that he was going to interview...not that he had already interviewed. But Nussmeir seems to be the frontrunner, now. From what I have seen, Southern Miss wants to wrap it up this weekend. We'll know something soon, I guess.

It's all fun and games until you insinuate that there could be a weak link in the Bama Process

4 Natties in 7 years, the best program in the country coached by the best coach in the country...yeah, there's much to worry about around Tuscaloosa these days.

Well, it is the offseason so I guess my thread gets to be the official first vessel for the annual Bama-Auburn flame war

To be fair... Ellis Johnson was a bum and that was possibly the worst hire of any team in NCAA history.

Plus, I have to stick up for southern miss. Both my brothers are playing baseball there and my cousin is a wide receiver. SMTTT
