quote:I know for a fact that Roy Adams claims Logan Young also paid Kendall Moorehead and David Payne to play at bammer. Did he tell you any stories about those two players?
After answering Roy, he went into a story on how he tried to recruit Eddie Blake to UT. Roy told me he offered Blake 500.00 per month and thought they had a deal until auburn upped the anty to 500.00 plus a vehicle

looks like operation "reddog we have to do something before we go into oblivion" is back on! I saw tractors making their way up through B'ham on their way to Memphis with Aubbie flags and tennis balls hanging on the antenna's of their duct taped boom boxes.

Ruminations from Tunica
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is absolutely amazing who, whom, one meets, talks to, around the poker table. As most poker enthusiast know, one's mind is near totally on the cards, otherwise, bad things are more likely to occur. However, there's opportunities to chat when the dealers change, as they do every 30minutes and the new dealer has to make sure there's the correct dollars in their drawer, shuffling, etc. Yesterday, during my 15 hour residence at the Horseshoe poker table, we had several notable players. One, a Roy Johnson, former Ark. State, qb, worked as a voluntary coach at Melrose until this year. The other, most distinguished, and great individual, was the 10 year NFL All- pro safety, Jerome Woods, who retired from KC instead of taking a pay cut in 2006. Jerome, a long time friend, graduated from Melrose, was and is still, a close friend of Tim Thompson, the notorious ex Melrose alleged slave trader, dealer, coach. Most interesting comments and info from both, which just further confirmed our previous rumors.
1. A runner, known to and close to the Melrose coaches, is in full mode operation. Evidently the runner is trying to establish rapport with other Memphis high school coaches, trying to play basketball with them on Saturdays, etc, but he has been rebuffed, thus far. He does have the two highly regarded, by Alabama, juniors in his grasp, under his influence, having taken them to Tuscaloosa(Saban avoided having any contact), lining them up for local, Memphis, personal trainer work outs, and givng them small sums of money.
2.Jerome, never a user of drugs(and quite proud), in reply to a question from around the table when the players learned the identity and presence of such a high profile exNFL player, as to how many players in the NFL did NOT smoke marijuana etc., replied "Peyton and Eli Manning", to the vocal laughter of many at the table.
3. Jerome is going to be my guest at our weekly luncheon of Memphis college sports enthusiast at Mr. B's, this Wednesday, at 11:30; if you're interested, please call me at 901 767-6326. I told Jerome that this group is a hard core of college football enthusiast and he would be peppered with difficult and penetrating questions, but he said that would be no problem.
4.Jerome asked about my infamous sports card detaling our Saturday college football functions and did I really have on it "Tim Thompson and other slave traders not welcomed"? I handed him the card. I am going to host a dinner party at my home in honor of Jerome and I told him that even though I disagreed, didn't like Tim Thompson, since it was a party in his honor, he could invite Tim Thompson.(I'd be shocked if he appeared, as he was party to an effort by Logan Young for me to meet him at Denny's where I would be photographed and taped. I refused to go there and invited him to my home, instead, after he had called me wanting to talk to him about his 3 Melrose players, Cedrick Wilson, Andre Lott, and Taylor.
5. I had known Jerome since his high school days; he had to attend jr college so I got Bobby Franklin(NWCC) to take him. Bobby could only keep 6 out of state players, so he cut Jerome, but due to our friendship, helped get him a scholarship to NEMIss Juco at Booneville. Jerome excelled there and was recruited by numerous colleges; Jerome wanted to go to UT. He and his family followed me up one week end; they went by UT's coaching offices. UT, Kippy Brown, said that UT decided Jerome couldn't make it at UT so UT didn't offer. Jerome then went to the U of Memphis, staying home. He was drafted in the first round by KC and spent 10 years with them, making All-pro. He's a great, great, human being, quality, all the way, despite his loyalty, friendship, to Tim Thompson, in the same category as Cortez Kennedy and Dan Williams, whose father is a long time friend, who just graduated without tatoos, this week end. His dad is vehemently against tatoos, but his mother, more so!.
In conclusion, as in the Logan Young days, I'm absolutely convinced that certain Bama boosters, one in Huntsville and two in East Tennessee, according to believable rumors, are, indeed, trying to get a foothold in Memphis. The runner has openly bragged to the Melrose coaches that he controls Melrose as far as to which school their players attend, IF, IF, Alabama wants them. This has upset several Merose alumni!
PS. For you fortunate elderly folks, this month's issue of AARP has the one and only DOLLY PARTON vividly displayed on the cover!! I shall frame and hang it!!

RE: Tennstud: Is bama using runners to make contact with Memphis

I agree I am not the voice of UT; I do not get involved with recruiting in Memphis as I have too many high school coaches and I trust their judgment, what's best for the kid. I do NOT, approve, however, of flagrant cheating from Alabama-others- and will do everything I can to expose such. I've offered to take lie detector tests for the NCAA on numeorus occasions when they have had questions about any of my activities. They have sat in my living room numerous times!
