Kiffin missed multiple staff meetings. Was late for others. Was mentally elsewhere when he did show up. Who knows what would have happened if he had not been fired. Alabama might have won. They might have lost even worse.
I do know this. Lane Kiffin was the only coordinator Saban ever fired during the season. And he did it a week before a national championship game. So his behavior had to be pretty egregious.
During the ESPN episode on it Saban, Steve Sarkisian, and Kirby Smart are all on video discussing how disruptive and distracting Lane’s situation was leading up to the game.
When it comes down to either believing Saban, Sarkisian, and Smart or a random internet messageboarder, I am going with the coaches who were there.

I wanted Lane when Saban retired. I don’t know what all went on behind the scenes with him back then but I wanted him. It would’ve been a smoother transition for him leaving Ole Miss as well. That being said I’m very happy we’ve got DeBoer and I believe Lane will probably win big at LSU!!

What? If you remove coaches that have not coached at least 10 games, Brian Kelly is #6 All-Time in win percentage margins of LSU coaches with .708.
He was a winning machine and easily one of the best coaches they have ever had.

Well, the reason why is, he turned a RB into an All-Conference QB. Then he turned Jake Coker into a National Championship winning QB. Then to top it all off he was the QB coach for Jalen Hurts’s freshman year.
That’s why the Gumps are so scared. They saw what he can do with their QB’s and they want him NO WHERE NEAR LSU and the talent they attract.
When he was at Ole Miss they were ok, but still getting nervous. Now that he has access to more money and better recruits than Alabama the only thing they can do is hope and pray the NCAA/SEC stops Lane. Lord knows, the Gumps won’t stop him!
Thats ok though! Reality is starting to hit them in the face with a frying pan! All they can do is talk crap and hope beyond belief someone else stops Lane and LSU.

They didn’t disagree. All three agreed that Kiffin’s behavior leading up to that championship game was disruptive and hurt the team. They interviewed and asked Kiffin about it too. He didn’t disagree with anything they had said.
