Texas A&M or Arkansas? The first "Game of the Century" I remember was the epic 1969 Texas-Arkansas game.

I know A&M,obviously,is "in-state" but more times than not, nationally more was riding on the line when Texas and Arkansas teed it up.

Just curious what our fine new Longhorn fans think.

I wasn’t born yet, but my mom (also a Texas grad) claims that Oklahoma has always been #1, and back then, Arkansas was #2.

You tell me.

A&M is the only school cited in their fight song, and the only school that a football victory over prompted them to light their entire tower orange. (Everyone else only got the top orange, and the rest white.)

My Grandfather was head of the Mathematics Dept at UT and a big Horn fan. Got there in the late 50s. He always told me growing up that OU was the biggest rivalry but that Arkansas was the team that gave him the willys and had his respect.

Aggie was the butt of jokes and counted as a W. Arkansas felt the same about Aggie.

I don't think anybody ever considered Aggies to be their main rival. Maybe Texas Tech did.

In the 1960s, Arkansas and Texas were big rivals.

From the 70s forward, Texas always considered Oklahoma their number one rival.

Even with their recent success against us, I don't really see A&M as a rival. They're just weird, try-hard long-lost cousins or something.

Arkansas has 13 SWC titles, fool. And they left the conference where you won titles after they left.

Arkansas OWNS Aggie all time.

Do you know what the word outright means you imbecile?

We only won 2 SWC championships after Arkansas left so 13-7 if it makes you feel better

It does go to show not all rivalries are arch rivals.

It depends, to the students it was A&M. It was more mixed between the older fans.

Arkansas games meant more as far as a quality opponent. You had to beat them most years to win the league.

A&M was more personal. It was like civil war.

Out of the 17 SWC titles A&M had in football, 8 (nearly half) were before 1942. Two were after we left the conference. So, yeah. Take that FWIW. Aggies had two after Arkansas left for the SEC, and Arkansas still has more SWC titles that people alive today remember

Texas (27 titles, 19 outright): 1916, 1918, 1920, 1928, 1930, 1942, 1943, 1945, 1950, 1952, 1953*, 1959*, 1961*, 1962, 1963, 1968*, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975*, 1977, 1983, 1990, 1994*, 1995

Texas A&M (17, 15): 1917, 1919, 1921, 1925, 1927, 1939, 1940*, 1941, 1956, 1967, 1975*, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1993

Arkansas (14, 7): 1933, 1936, 1946*, 1954, 1959*, 1960, 1961*, 1964, 1965, 1968*, 1975*, 1979*, 1988, 1989

I don't really care one way or another.

We don't really have a rival.

Who do I wanna play on rivalry weekend?

HALF the times you ”won” the SWC … you shared the title!

Nice goal post moving. Guess no SWC championship before 1945 matters. Go ahead and take 8 from Texas and 2 from Arkansas.

ok, 14 then. The exact amount y'all had when we left the SWC. We were tied in titles and had a +17 series lead.

Okay, sounds like from time to time before WWII A&M had a lot of success.

Since WWII?

A&M - 9 titles, 8 outright
Arkansas - 9 titles, 5 outright

Remove the 2 when Arkansas wasn’t in conference and we still lead in outright SWC titles

6-5

It’s funny the team talking about all-time series lead wants to arbitrarily not count anything before 1945

I was thinking you had more than the Aggie had given you credit for.

I know that Arkansas had the stronger program compared to A&M. I think the Aggies are wanting to exaggerate their status which I can understand.
