Well, as we know, being fired from an NBA team clearly means you cannot be a successful collegiate coach. It's a cold hard fact.

4 of those teams have at least 1 superstar.

We really need an Auburn vs. Alabama pissing match board.

The second team also fired John Calipari.
So there's that.

"Superstar"? Who in Indiana, Toronto, Memphis, Atlanta or Portland is a superstar? Paul George? Lowery? Gasol/Randolph? Horford? Lilliard/Aldridge?
They have all-stars and great/good supporting casts, but I wouldn't classify any of those guys as "super-stars".

Took first team to the finals and doubles the previous years wins total of his second team in his first year. Yep, really crappy coach.

I just hope he can win more than 22% of his league games in his first year.
I'm sure that number sounds familiar to our experts at hiring a new coach.

And when the Spurs drafted Avery Johnson's teammate Tim Duncan the Rick Pitino led Boston Celtics had the worst record in the NBA

There is, you know, a middle ground here.
One side : Avery Johnson was fired from 2 NBA jobs. Avery Johnson was a terrible NBA coach. Avery Johnson knows nothing about college. Avery Johnson will not be able to recruit. Nobody wanted to hire Avery Johnson.
Other side (that I really haven't seen anyone take, but just for kicks and giggles) : Avery Johnson is on ESPN and was a NBA Finals coach. Avery Johnson will walk in and sign everyone. Avery Johnson's NBA experience makes him a better coach than most all in the league.
Actual Situation : Avery Johnson was decent NBA coach. He inherited a lot of talent in Dallas, but he took them to a level they had not previously attained (60 win seasons, the NBA finals). He had some bad playoff losses, players started to tire of him, a new GM came in and he was let go. His overall tenure in Dallas was pretty successful. Johnson went to the Nets, a terrible decision, and he was awful. The roster was constructed at about as low a cap spot as possible to try and sign LeBron, they had won 12 games the year before and they were miserable. They finally decided to load up on overpaid veterans to fill the LeBron void (when he didn't sign) and Johnson had trouble getting them all on the same page, so after starting 14-14 he was fired. He has skills that it seems would translate well to recruiting in college, but he's never done it. His tenure will be interesting and exciting, it could go great or it could blow up. Thems the facts.

Yet the Nets record didn't immediately improve after firing Calipari. This compares to the coach who replaced Avery Johnson almost doubling his winning percentage

You never answered my question earlier.
What happens when you mix an extremely shitty, bottom dwelling basketball program with a slightly above average coach?

I just downvote the abortion everytime I see it post.

He was fired at .500 and the team finished .593. Is that doubled while using AU math? Because in actual math it is not even close.

Yeah, he had a pretty sweet gig with ESPN.

Johnson runs a lot of iso heavy stuff. Not my favorite style, but it's what he does.
I seriously doubt he does this early on with yall. Especially after the Duke comment.
4 man motion offense relies heavily on screens and dribble drives. You need a 7 footer if you're going to put a PF on the perimeter and you need talented guards that can come off ball screens and get in the paint in 1-2 dribbles.
I'd bet my 401k yall are in a 3 man set like Duke of previous years.
