He just stated he will model the offense and Defense after Duke. Not sure what that will look like ?

I was very skeptical of this hire but I can tell Avery has the swagger to recruit. He's exciting! I'm going to the first game!

Is it wrong that I read this in a Corky voice?

Ah ok I didn't watch the presser. Working. But Duke's offense is very personnel driven.

Can all of you just admit you are ignorant about the NBA, read his Wikipedia page and hope he fails? I've seen him blamed for not building the Nets roster (the GM's job), running Don Nelson's offense (which he did not like and did not run), having no interest from any NBA teams after the Brooklyn firing (agreed to a deal in principle with Atlanta, in last 2-3 for about 5 other jobs) and being a terrible NBA coach (which is, just, laughable). Guy is a risk/reward hire. We all know and have said this. The few of us who pay attention to the NBA understand what Johnson's strengths and weaknesses were, and that he has some nice characteristics that appear as if they will translate well to college, but we don't know until we see it in action.

Hard to argue that his success was built on success, then led to failure at Dallas. His failure at NJ was built on failure, so his record there was hard to figure. The NBA is a different game, it is built around superstars. I do not see any of those on Bama's roster.

Johnson runs a lot of iso heavy stuff. Not my favorite style, but it's what he does.

Wait I forgot he runs run-and-gun Nellie Ball according to about half the posters here.

Maybe I missed that part but I think what he actually said was that the "standard" would be Duke. Not that we would be duplicating their O or D.
I'm often wrong so forgive me but the take away for me was not that we would be installing Duke's specific offense or defense.

Yeah my big hope is that Pop's success with pace and space since Avery has been working at ESPN has an impact on him like it did Kerr.

failure at Dallas

His "failure" in Dallas was going 16-2, 60-22, 67-15, 51-31, an overall record of 192-70. He won 74% of his games. He was fired in Dallas because his style started getting under guys skin and he got bumped early in some playoff series. If he wins 74% of his games in Tuscaloosa, makes a run or two and loses to a few lower seeds in some early rounds, I will be perfectly content.

This built around superstars thing.........you aren't going to stop making that up, are you? Check out Fox Sports South sometime soon. You have a team in your backyard with the 2nd best record in the NBA with nary a "super-star" on the roster.

Mentioned both Duke's movement offense and smoothering defense . I sure it want be exactly the same but it is a good starting point .

And the Mavs made a GM change while he was the HC. That is basically a ticking time bomb for coaches.

I mean, I know the rant is built on the blocks of stupidity, but the combination of stupidity and willful ignorance on this issue is just staggering.

San Antonio, Atlanta, Memphis, Portland, Toronto, 2014 Indiana, ........

All of those teams have some really, really good players (because if they didn't they wouldn't be good), but not are "built around a superstar". They are built around a concept. The idea that most NBA teams are built around a super-star and coaching isn't required is ludicrous.

All you have to know about his NBA record is that he was fired from two different teams. The first team won a NBA championship after he was fired and the second team dramatically improved after he was fired.

No I am just saying it happens all the damn time in the NBA. I mean he had a 50 win season and was fired.
