So Auburn should be expecting brutal NCAA sanctions soon? The Dubose era brought us a decade of misery. Can Auburn expect the same?

Would have been a good hire years ago. Auburn is in a position that the next hire will be crucial in competing for the west or continuing a downward spiral for many more years.
Auburn hasn't hit bottom yet.
So no. Not if you have a chance to recover in a few years.
