Still trying to figure out why someone with a 2005 account (stephendomalley) uses an alter. I would be using that thing like I big dog.

In general, talent is the best recipe for success at home or on the road.

The more talented teams tend to win more at home and more on the road.

We do not have the talent to consistently compete with the Alabama, Georgia, LSU type teams. We can find some good players and find a win here and there, but until we rebuild the offensive line with SEC quality players it will be tough to win 10+ games every year.

I think that AU plays better on the road over the Gus era. The key is the matchups. Look at the ranking of the teams they lost to over the years. They only real upset was against UGA in 16, and AU had the QB and RB hurt.

Gus is 12-12 in SEC road games in 6 full seasons.

how is it that everytime we beat AU it's because all your players are hurt? That's gotta be some kind of issue that needs looking into.

After reading the OP I checked the data...what I came up with was pretty obvious.

When we struggle to win on the road it is often because we can't score as many points as our opponents score.

Well , if they do not play in the game that would be a good indication. If they were not going to play be had to because of other injuries and it was discussed beforehand that would be another.

White completed 6 passes for 27 yards and Pettway did not play.

I find it strange that LSU hasn't competed for the SEC West in almost a decade.

I know you're just trolling, but your use of "competed" is flawed. If you meant, LSU hasn't won the SEC West in almost a decade that would be more accurate.

In 2017, LSU finished just 1 game behind and had beaten the West winner.

In 2015, LSU finished 2 games behind but was tied with the eventual winner when they played.

These are just 2 examples that popped out at me first. I'm sure there are also other instances of close competition in the recent past. But yes, it is certainly strange that LSU has gone this long without winning the division. I expect that to change in the near future.

It might be Auburn plays the toughest schedule in college football year in and year out. When your two toughest rivals are Alabama and Georgia and you also have to play LSU every year you get banged up a lot. There OOC games have been Clemson (3 times) Oregon, Washington, and Kansas St all ranked when AU played them. Washington St and Louisville were the only unranked squads.

We don’t get to coast through our schedule like Clemson in the ACC and Georgia in the East. Georgia has a Tennessee team that hasn’t been relevant for 10 years and a Florida squad that’s suxed since Urban left and South Carolina who hasn’t done a thing since Spurrier. Georgia rose to Power as these squads faltered. Gus got stubborn and wouldn’t change his offfense with Stiddham and you end up losing to a hapless Tennessee squad and Miss St.

Auburn usually has a top 20 recruiting class but you have to look at who’s being recruited. Great receivers, athletes, DB’s, DL’s, almost always 4 stars. We rarely get a top O-lineman, running back, or linebacker. The linebacker just changed recently with improved recruiting. We had the worst group off linebackers in the country just a few years ago.it was awful.

Auburn not being the big State School is never going to be able to recruit like LSU, Georgia, and Alabama. We’re going to be just under that level but have to identify better 3* and 4* recruits and coach them up. We’ve succeeded in several areas but have to do better on the offensive line. That’s AU’s biggest weakness. The line is key in college football and we’re just not there yet. And as the great Spurrier once alluded to our s holarships aren’t worth as much as Alabama’s and Georgia’s.

Maybe I should be more clear: LSU hasn't won the West in nearly a decade. Auburn has twice, despite our trouble "on the road"

(In my best Arkansas accent): But this thread isn't about LSU.

The only legit response to the OP is, "Undefeated at Kyle Field."

I agree with your overall premise that the other guy who said you haven't "competed" is inaccurate. LSU certainly has. But that was a really bad example to cite, IMO. There's only 8 conference games so finished 2 behind the divison winner is..not good. Especially since they beat you straight up, meaning they essentially had a 3 game lead on you.

When was the last time Auburn brought in a class above #12?

Auburn has had a problem with retention, which ends up lowering the overall class value. But for the past decade, Auburn has recruited better than ever in their history.
