I think we may be over reacting to AUs d yesterday. It was improved, but we were assisted by Garcia, Spurrier and a more ball controlled, run heavy offense that kept the d off of the field. Also, we always seem to match up better defensively against traditional offenses with power running games.

I think that believing that a guy took over and installed an entirely new defense in ONE WEEK is edging upon the delusional.

But I realize why the true-blue Roof haters would grab onto that like a non-swimmer grabbing a life ring in the middle of the ocean.

Its been Gene Chizik's defense from week one, bro. It was Gene Chizik's defense this week too. Good for Coach Chiz that he and Roof got together and made some changes for the good.

If you commit to buying this, there is no turning back.

If Arkansas puts up big numbers, there is no "Well, maybe Chizik let Roof have control back"...

This is the key thing folks are ignoring. This is the reason we've played well against Bama the past two years on defense as well. We do well against north/south runners but have struggled badly versus speed guys on balanced type offenses and option plays. Garcia actually had a number of decent runs against us, so that is obviously not fixed. And Garcia couldn't hit the broadside of a barn yesterday, so not sure how much better our secondary really looked.

Our tackling was still hit or miss, but improved overall. The usual suspects (see Bates) were still not wrapping up and whiffing tackles a fair bit.

The biggest difference with our defense to me was mainly the defensive line starting to finally get some decent push, they looked very solid yesterday and much improved. And that wasn't just a USC sucks thing, because we've played much worse O-lines than USC this year and had zero push. Since our d-line is so crazy young it's to be expected it would take some time to gel, but it's nice to see it possibly happening. We are going to need them to play at a high level versus Ark to have a chance, particularly if Trotter is still our starter.

This....

Our guys were playing harder. I am not sure you can turn a defense around in 5 days. We looked better but some of that was the shitty team we played..

It being a Pro style offense made it easier...

Hold the awards till we do it a few weeks.
