Found it. runs through 2019....that's still 3 years and less than 4 though.
Since the deal is scheduled to run through Dec. 31, 2019,

Sorry for the misinformation, but my point stands.

Actually I was wrong and you are correct. Running through 2019 would give him a 4 year run on his contract. My bad!

And this is why I hate to talk to some Auburn fans. Even when I am trying to be evenhanded and fair they want to be snarky.
I was searching, hence the link in my post...and I admitted that I was wrong without being a smart aleck.

and probably one of the only ones. They also tried to fire him this past season

yes its "four years" but even if he fails this year, he will either get fired or get an extension. its a pretty common concept in CFB. They were signing Spurier to extensions, despite knowing he wasnt going to be there that long

The only coach I could find (Admittedly I haven't put a ton of effort into it) is Tracy Claeys of Minnesota. He has a three year deal. I didn't realize how common four year deal were....but, I would guess it is due to recruiting. It would also explain why buyout clauses are so important for these guys.

in 2014, there were 2, both in mid majors, both had three years. 3 is about the absolute minimum you would ever see

it absolutely is

You are right. I think some Auburn fans are more like that to me because they dislike Georgia so much. I get frustrated with it though, because I honestly try not to troll and I try to have honest discussion.
I DO like to get on people when they make wild unsubstantiated claims, though. (For some reason a lot of LSU fans fall into this category!)

Everyone is so used to everything being a damn troll it's hard to accept any question as legitimate.

This is true.....I think it is magnified to me by Auburn fans because we are such heated rivals.

Generally I don't have any problems with DuncanIdaho or NYCAuburn and one or two others.
But all of Phans alters.....wow.

quote:It is for recruiting purposes, but will it really help? Auburn lost their best recruiter to LSU. They are facing a tough, tough schedule. They could potentially go 1-3 in September. If so, morale would be low heading into October facing a tough Mississippi State in Starkville. Losing that game would spell the end of the season and they could tank it the rest of the way....... recruits would probably lose a lot of interest in Auburn regardless if Gus is the coach or not
You just gave another $2MM and an extension to a coach who has finished last in his division with a losing record in the SEC. They must be worried about recruiting if that is the case.

That 2013 game brought some back the way it ended. And then when Trey Matthews transferred there it added to the fire a bit. Thing about Auburn, is you never know what you are going to get. I said in an earlier post you guys could go 7-5 or 6-6 this year. You could also go 14-1.

I am surprised the Phans irritate so many. I just play with him now and laugh

Auburn and Arkansas both find themselves in the position of needing to start, if not hot, then at least steady this coming season. I give Arkansas a slightly better shot at doing well to start out the season, which would be big for the Hogs since we've tended to close well down the stretch.
For Auburn its a matter of getting the option game going I think. Gus can put an effective passing and running attack on the field if he has a credible running threat at QB. Keep opponents from keying on the RB constantly and get them to bite on the option to open up the passing lanes.
He should also think about changing things up. The hurry up and run the RB down the middle 4 straight plays tends to end with the RB staggering towards the line of scrimmage and praying that someone knocks him down before he passes out. Which usually means Auburn is looking at 2nd and long... way out of their comfort zone.
With the right personnel Gus can do just fine. But I'm worried about their defense for this season and while I think they have some talent at QB I don't believe its the right talent for the system.
It could be a bumpy year for the War Eagles.
Which probably means they make the CFP since its Auburn.
