I know Auburn is talking about Stoops but Leach helped design the offense that won Stoops only national title one year after Leach left for Texas Tech. Leach's impact on college football and football in general is as great and arguably greater than any active coach including Nick Saban. His coaching tree is ridiculous.

If I am Auburn I bring in Leach and buy him 4-5 superstar WR's, a big o-line and a big time defensive coordinator. Let the Pirate find himself a QB and see what happens.

Leach has had a few good WR's over the years (Welker/Crabtree) but if you give him several with a bunch of NFL caliber lineman and a good defense then I think he could beat just about anyone including Saban. The Iron Bowl would be crazy.

Not sure Leach would do it but he listened when Tennessee called last year and if the Auburn boosters just stayed out of his way for a couple of years that would be something to see. I sure as hell wouldn't want to face the Pirate's Air Raid with Auburn level athletes. My goodness.

we have seen his O in the SEC. It doesn't work well. You must be able to run the football in this league. Not being able to run the ball consistently was a major factor in Auburn's struggles this year.

ETA now dude is a character. Nobody can deny that.

I would love for Leach to be in the SEC. If I could only choose between Leach and Malzahn, I probably pick Leach. Having said that, he isn't a fit for AU and it likely wouldn't work.

This would make me dislike Auburn less so I vote against

In Leach's final year at Kentucky (1998) they led the league in points per game.

Seems like it worked pretty well. He was only in the league for two years and he coached a team that was under talented.

If you give Mike Leach a big fast SEC back then a guarantee you he will figure out how to use them in his attack.

Leach isn't going to run a big blocking TE out there all the time but his QB will hand the ball off if the defense gives them the right look.

If Gus had that OL we wouldn't need Leach.

I’ve seen this fallacy on tRant many times. Two years, just under 32 points average in year one, just under 36 in year 2. Hal Mumme’s defense is what doesn’t work in this league.

Gee,why not hire Hal Mumme?Just as responsible if not
more so for AR offense. He's got a great gig as the OC at Jackson State right now.

God almighty...this is beyond idiotic.

Look up Lavelle Edwards coaching tree and get back to me.Mumme and Leach took his offense and put it on steroids...really not that complex and designed that way.Nothing Leach or Mumme did was particularly complicated.

I think you've been playing way too much Madden

His best team @ TT was boat raced by a good not great OM team in the 2009 Cotton Bowl. He's also lost to teams
with less talent...see Eastern Washington and Portland State.

The AR never won @ UK and arguably it's best offense
ever (2003 Oklahoma) was held to 21 points by a bad Bama team and stuffed by LSU in the NC game.

So why hasn't the AR been embraced by the SEC?Are AD'S
,HC's and OC'should just stupid amd don't care about winning?

We don’t need his type in the SEC.

(He is the only coach I am afraid of. )

They may have led the league in scoring, but they went 5-6(2-6) in 1997 and 7-5(4-4) in 1998 both under Leach's offense. Also, to compare the league.. in 1997 only 6 SEC teams were above .500 and no teams had less than 2 losses. In 1998, 5 teams were above .500 and only 1 team had less than 2 losses(UT 13-0)

You can run an "Air Raid" offense in the SEC, but it has inherent issues. SEC defenses are about speed and power. Big DL to stop the power run and a fast secondary to cover the field or close off the edges. As a result, they run into a good secondary and can't run the ball or they score, but can't stop the other team.

Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, Arkansas... we've seen that offense over and over, but it doesn't win our conference. Spurrier had good running teams, but he still only won 1 NC. It's taken Alabama 10 years of Top 3 classes to have a decent pass offense.
