I have been to most, some good food but I would classify any as fine dining
Kozy's is 100% fine dining. Cypress, Epiphany, Chuck's and Five I would consider semi-upscale casual dining. The rest are great holes in the wall for the most part.
I mean, is someone comparing it to Birmingham? Birmingham is a relatively large city. Tuscaloosa obviously doesn't have the upscale dining options of Birmingham.
The response was to the idea that Tuscaloosa is a bunch of chain restaurants. That's asinine.

frick the idea that Tuscaloosa is full of chain restaurants. And why the hell should we give a shite about Bham's dining options?
I never waste money on chain food when I'm in town. There are plenty of great dining establishments were you can sit down to a fine meal and pay out your arse for great wine and food.
Then there are some great places to enjoy good music and drinks. Tuscaloosa has a completely different vibe than it had 5-10 years ago and I love it!

I ate at Five in Birmingham (same menu) Sat, and it was good bar food. There are restaurants within a one block area of Birmingham that are better than any of your list, and none are considered fine dining.

And even 5-10 years ago, when I was in school, nobody went to frickin chain restaurants. The only chain restaurants in the entire area are on 82 in Northport and out McFarland past the mall.
Everybody ate at Nicks Sticks, Waysider, Mugshots, Hooligans, Phils, Archibalds, Pepito's, El Rincon, the seafood place down on the river where you could get crawfish from Feb-April, Depalma's and that place that had Wine Wednesdays across the street.

Oh, you're still around?
It has been quite obvious to everyone reading the last few pages (including all of the non-biased parties who have showed up) that you are either being willfully obtuse due to your orange and blue reading glasses, or you are in fact so out of touch with what constitutes a good time in the opinion of the majority of undergrad age kids that your opinion is rendered totally irrelevant. I'm now leaning towards the latter. You keep changing your talking points, and you ignore the multiple posts where you have been called out on non-debatable facts. I am now certain that you fit into one of two classifications: 1)an older ultra conservative type who is uncomfortable in any kind of diverse, non-sterile situation you can't control, or 2) if you are a more recent graduate, that your idea of a good time in college was playing Xbox with your 'authentic' Freshman year roommates all weekend. Either way, you're totally out of your element here.

Since we're discussing cities:
Huntsville announced that they are getting Google Fiber and will have internet 85 times faster than the national average.
Always wondered why they never added fiber optic cables.

Five in Birmingham is not bar food. Shrimp, fish, crab cakes and southern fried chicken is not "fine dining" (nobody claimed it was), but it is not pub food. Stop being an idiot.

Again, why the fudge do you keep talking about Birmingham? Nobody is comparing anything to Birmingham. I'm not running around comparing Birmingham to Atlanta either, but Atlanta would take a big fate shite all over Birmingham's face, and San Fransisco and New York would do the same to Atlanta. We don't compare things out of their league, it is stupid.
Kozy's is just as good and fun an upscale environment as the last 5 upscale restaurants I ate at in Inman Park, Buckhead, Midtown and Morningside in Atlanta.
You said Tuscaloosa was all chain restaurants. You were clearly totally wrong. Stop trying to change the argument.

We usually ate at Hokkaido on Friday/Saturday nights before we went to a movie.

I eat at a few chain restaurants here in T-Town. Don't care what anyone says about it, Chuy's is fricking awesome.
Other than that, yeah I'll usually eat out at some places downtown. It's impossible to find a good parking space downtown now though because it's always crowded at night.

I'm not which is weird because I'm usually on top of the Birmingham music scene in particular. I just moved back to town after a year and a half though so maybe I've been out of touch. I like what I'm hearing
They're solid as hell, and look like they'd put on a great, gritty show. I was set to see them last fall but the show was canceled.

Sure, I mean I drove through Taco Casa and Little Ceasers a lot too. I think he really meant Chili's, Olive Garden, Applebee's, etc.

Yep, my new house in Brookhaven is going to have Google Fiber. They finally got their TV options up to par so I am looking forward to it. Only station that seems to still be missing is AMC.

All of which are doing poorly and won't last much longer. In fact chili's is gone and the only Applebee's is in University Mall. Olive Garden is hanging on by a thread.

Tuscaloosa and Auburn are both towns. Any city will obviously have more to do.
TTown has a lot of solid local dining options. The post tornado / Saban development is nothing short of amazing

I guess they overlooked the Olive Garden and Chili's

I'll just add that Troy is a crappy place to eat. It is way different now than when I was in school there, but even back then, the dining options were fast food, chicken, crap bbq, and a couple of local places. There are still 1-2 places I always eat whenever I'm down there, but the town is just too small to support anything other than the local rednecks and broke college students. I remember it being a big deal when they got a Ruby Tuesday's. A place I don't ever eat at in Birmingham. There was this greek place that opened. Closed down and reopened in a new spot, but they changed the menu to steaks. When it was actually a little greek place it was great, but all they want down there is cheap microwaved fast food type stuff.

You need to get out more. Bar food is no longer potato skins or chicken fingers.

Most on here a looking at it from a 21 year old perspective. I use Birmingham, because it is obvious that most do not have much variety in their dining experience, even though Birmingham is less than 60 miles away.
Places like Archibald's and Dreamlands got their reputation when very few restaurants were serving that type food. Today, you can find that quality in most any city.
