The Missouri kicker hit a one-off longest field goal in SEC history last year at 61-yards. So when you're telling us that kicks of similar magnitude are "very much in play" during actual games, the kicker in question would have to potentially be one of the, if not the greatest of all time.

Oh, we remember that damn Mezzo guy who shanked an easy FG to lose to AU, and then nails 3 50+ yarders the next week against UGA. His 61 yarder broke the UGA/SEC record.

UGA has had 4 kickers make FG's of 55+ since at least 2005, and the guy after them made 53. The current kid had a 60 yarder in HS.

Wow. A college football coach had his team hustling at practice.

Compelling. Rich.

I appreciate the information, but knowing the Rant it probably would have been better appreciated on the Georgia board.

That said I would welcome other teams updates instead of all of the garbage troll threads.

How many more children's cancer hospitals were robbed?

Both questions make as much sense as the other.

Biggest thing for UT is LSU transfer Hurd is limited in practice still.

Yeah. I can't imagine a true freshman running the offense as well as a senior that started the year before.

It’s too early into camps to get anything but coach speak. On the Vols board I just try to post position groups and who is running with the ones or twos and who is limited. And I’ll do that more after the scrimmage.

I would actually be interested to see how much progress Iamaleava is making.
If UTk's secondary is looking improved and things like that.

You're right. Maybe in a week or so. I would be genuinely interested to hear about the other teams. maybe make this board something other than a troll sceptic tank.

Routes against air saw 1 scholarship WR drop 1 pass yesterday. But it’s against air so not much to go on. In interviews he seems to have had the idea of sliding hammered into him all off season. Supposedly he’s added 10 pounds to be at the 225 mark which was a concern. Last year was often lost and didn’t have the timing or experience with the WRs and going from bazooka Joe to Nico caused issues.

Understandable. Great HS QBs tend to be the best player on the team, and think they are invincible. Coaches have to drill it into their skulls they can get hurt bad if they don't slide in the SEC.

Freshman issues that the coaches can fix. He's huge key for you guys. If he progresses as hoped, Tennessee could have a very special year.

Thanks!

Correction:

5 UGA kickers since 2001 have made that long of a kick. That’s nearly every single one of our starting PK in this time period.

thinking a scholarship D1 kicker being able to make a 55-yarder qualifies him as one of the best in history

Not "make" — the difference between successfully executing one attempt in a 40-point blowout and a coach routinely giving you that opportunity so much that it's considered "very much in play" is not even remotely the same statistically.

I'm talking about establishing an equivalence in terms of expected points per possession, and a coach who is willing to trot a college kid out to attempt a 55+ yarder and jeopardize losing the field position battle in a competitive game, especially one who is from the Nick Saban coaching tree.

Unless you're legitimately one of the world's best kickers (in-game, not at camp) from their 53-to-30%-success-rate range, and said coach explicitly trusts you not to screw up his and the rest of the staff's day.

You really want to have a discussion about semantics?

I think he was talking about the ability of the kicker to make the kick. I doubt he was considering how often Kirby would allow him to try it.

It’s reasonable for a uga fan to expect our kicker to make a 55 yarder because so many of our kickers have been good enough to make it in a game.

Honestly, not really. And I think that's what this has boiled down to, unfortunately.

We seem to be interpreting differently what he meant in the OP.

Oh well, I'm probably wrong and reading too much into it.

Looking forward to kickoff either way. Good luck to you guys.

From today:

Iamaleava was off on a handful of throws, he had a miscommunication on one rep with Bru McCoy and receivers and tight ends had a few bad drops.

They were doing more hot read downfield stuff and he struggled a bit.

Kirby stated that Brandon Robinson was a full go.

And when he popped into the line on Sunday he was running as well as ever and with no hesitation whatsoever. Ask anyone who was there for their opinion!. Frazier was also running with his hair on fire.

My comment about Stockton and Puglisi were obviously about the ability to come into a game situation and be just as productive. With no less than 5 high quality running backs on the depth chart, why would this be a surprise to anyone? Stockton, in particular, has been in the system for three years.
