The report states Petrino told the SP about the passenger, provided her the name, and arranged for them to meet with her so they could interview her.

I think the university could argue that regardless of Petrino and her relationship she would have been hired over any of the other applicants (if there were any).
I don't think it would fall into unethical hiring process as long as she was qualified, and the job was posted for the madatory time.
I agree it is not a clear cut case of misconduct, beyond the obvious. However, all of these questions will have to be addressed and answered. I heard a rumor this is a six figure job - if so, one or more rejected applicants is likely to sue. Doesn't mean they'll win, but the University will be in the awkward position of defending the actions of Petrino, whose character is immutable and irredeemable.
After the AD and ASP finish their investigations, the Board and possibly the legislature may get involved. This is a terrible position in which to put your employer when you make several million dollars a year.

I don't think he lied to the state police. I do think he lied or misled your AD and the press/public. The ARkansas fans will forgive him. No one else is giving money or buying those stupid plastic hog hats so we don't count.
Questionable whether Jeff Long will forgive - though he could probably be persuaded in exchange for a contract extension or a raise.
The press is a different story. The local press lives and breathes for the sake of Arkansas but the national press may keep stoking the fire. It will be interesting to see how much heat is brought to the situation and if becomes unbearable for the piglets.
My pick is for Vandy or LSU fans to come up with the most creative way to harass Petrino over this if he survives to coach another game.

I think I read something that the job was filled early. Posted on 3/27 and said accepting applicants until 4/27... then filled. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Frankly, I think Arky is better off letting Petrino go. This whole thing is like a cancer. You have to cut it out.

I've worked in Law Enforcement for over 12 years. and in 12 years I have not convinced one District Attorney to indict a suspect for lying.

I don't think this is correct, since the job had been vacant for over a month.
Also for this to be the case, Human Resources would have had to be part of a conspiracy to hire her.

Our time at the top was so sweet, I could almost taste it. I could almost remember how we use to be top 10 every year in the 1980s and how now we are top 5 for the first time in a long time. It was good knowing you Petrino, wish you could have kept it together and not had a 25 year old girlfriend but like all things that happens to Arkansas, it was not meant to be.

If you want to get all legal about it, he was suffering four broken ribs and thought his neck was broken during the 5-10 minutes he was actually in contact with a police officer.
During that time, he never denied that he had a passenger.
