Especially considering that the school seemed to do everything it could to try and mitigate the negative effects of his inelucable popularity boom without coming down hard and being too restrictive. And the family still has sour grapes.

Oh, I agree. A&M has bent over backwards to try to guide and help this kid, and it's like he's reaching out and slapping their hand away. It's fricking baffling to me.

weve given him every opportunity in the world. he has told us to go shove it. his choice. losing him would suck, but it wouldnt be the end of the world for the fans or the program

I mean, imagine how Kevin Sumlin must feel right now. This kid has got to be a migraine a minute for him. He's trying to run a Division 1 football program (a tough enough job as it is,) not babysit rich kids, their immature families, and their pissant personal assistants.

Sumlin is who I feel the worst for in all this. The guy came into this coaching job with all the pressure in the world on his shoulders and fricking delivered in every way imaginable. He went to bad for Manziel before he was a star to keep him from having to transfer, then made him the Aggies' starter (which was NOT the popular opinion going into '12).

You could see just how tired he is of dealing with it at his press conference yesterday. He's a professional and kept it that way, but you can tell he'd obviously rather be talking about football and trying to chase down SEC West competition like Bama and LSU than addressing what latest tabloid fodder Manziel provided.

Of course it wouldn't. No player is bigger than the program. Not Joe Namath, not Ken Stabler and damn sure not Johnny Football.

I agree, but at the end of the day, Sumlin is rich, successful, has the love of his fanbase and has a hot white wife.

I'm not comparing the years, bro. There's no comparison there.

I'm comparing the personalities of the players. Namath and Stabler were hellraisers for us every bit as much as JFF is for A&M. Coach Bryant didn't put up with that shite either.

No, but at some point the guy becomes more trouble than he's worth. At least most stars are able to keep their stupidity under wraps, trouble seems to follow this guy around in the public eye. After reading the Sports Illustrated article it also seems like A&M will be growing tired of the families BS.

If he would just stop and think for 2 seconds before tweeting or even going out, he'd be fine. That's the infuriating thing. It's not that he's this terrible human being necessarily, it's that he's just not smart and has zero perspective of what position he's in. My little brother would KILL to still be in a jersey that read "Texas A&M" on the front. Hell, so would a lot of guys. And if they had the opportunity, they wouldn't think of doing something that could potentially bring negative perceptions to the school that gave them a chance. Living your life be damned. I'm with WCA--can't wait for the kyle allen era to begin.

Why can't we have a guy with JFF's football talent and, say, Jerrod Johnson's character?

True.. They drank and raised hell... But NFL players didn't make shite back then.... Much less college QBs.

Also true.

As far as comparing the Bryant years, though, I don't even think John McKay would have tried to compare his tenure at USC to the Bryant years.

not only is he probably the biggest recruit we have brought in in years, or the fact that he will probably be the #1 QB for 2014, but he was talking shite to both sips and sooners on twitter

I dunno. I think we might do OK at QB at 'Bama in 2014. He's a damn good one, though.

I sort of take an evil thrill in the fact that we've snagged five star QBs from both Norman and Ventura, right under the noses of Oklahoma and USC.

I don't hate the sooners as much as, say, baylor, texas, or tech, but I rediscovered some strong dislike during the run up to the cotton bowl
