I was leaning more towards had Florida won a national title last year, they would be possibly be ranked ahead of Bama right now. I find it hard to believe it has no effect.

Seriously. I have been an 8 team playoff proponent for years.
In fact, I'd like to see six 12-team super conferences with two at large bids. And furthermore, would use an English-soccer-style relegation process to weed out teams that suck year after year and give the Boise States of the world a chance to make it into a playoff super-conference.
But hey, I am not the College Football Grand Poobah. It'll never happen. We might see four 16 team leagues, though. I'd give that even money.
