If you seriously dont think ND gets in, I dont know what to say. ND unlike Auburn doesn't get screwed over, they get the benefit of the doubt every single time because they're ND. You know the whole 9 wins = BCS berth thing?
So they get a BCS berth, that's nice. So did Auburn. I want you to tell me why they would have jumped Oklahoma to get into the title game.

Because they are ND! What don't you understand about this, name matters. I know that sucks for Aubs like you, but it's true.
Let's take this year for instance. If UGA, OSU, and Oklahoma all finish with 1 lose, OSU will be left out. I don't care about SOS or anything else, OSU doesn't go. Perception does indeed matter.
How come LSU went over Oklahoma this year? Both were considered good teams before the bowl games, why did LSU go? Perception and media backing. I think LSU deserved to be there, but Oklahoma had a legit gripe.

Busting me on spelling, gj man. Auburn is a regional, second rate program, that's why you always seem to get left out. '04 wasn't the first time.

Name may matter, but are you saying USC and Oklahoma don't have great names as well? Combine that with the #1 and #2 rankings from the entire year and the best Notre Dame can hope for is a tie for #2 like Auburn had.

The first thing you ever said that I agree with.

Because LSU used Virginia Tech as a wedge. LSU annihilated Virginia Tech, who was in National title contention for the entire year. They acted as a wedge for LSU to surpass Oklahoma.

Concerning LSU, media backing>>>>>>>>>>>>VT win.

If LSU did not beat Virginia Tech, but let's say the beat Kentucky. They would not have been in the BCS National Title game. Virginia Tech would have been going. They had to have the Virginia Tech win, no matter what the media said. That win and the lopsided nature of it is what got them into the big game when the season ended.

I think everyone here knows that Notre Dame, in Auburn's shoes in 2004, would have absolutely played for the National Title. They get every iota of preferential treatment that everyone who follows football usually accuses them of....An undefeated Notre Dame team would have been ranked #1, and wouldn't have NEEDED a jump to get to the big game.

100%, what's so hard to understand about this? ND doesn't play by the same rules as everyone else.

If I'm not mistaken, OU was ahead of LSU in the polls before the conference championship games. Then LSU wins a close game against UT and OU spanks Mizzou. Then everyone on TV starts screaming for LSU. The human polls played a bigger factor than the VT game.

this argument does make some sense. I also think ND gets in, but I dont think Bama would have gotten in, and I dont think Bama would have gotten in '05 when it came down to USC-UT. We had too many games where we barely squeaked it out. ND (and Bama to a certain extent) always gets alot more credit than they deserve from voters. Even if they get left out, they would have a much better shot than Auburn at getting a split NC. Not a knock on Auburn, but Notre Dame usually gets the benefit of the doubt (except in '93 when Daddy Bowden was the media darling). Remember, OU had already gotten lucky the year before to slip into the national championship when they might not have deserved it. Even though it shouldn't matter, i think previous years play into voters' decisions

I'm not saying LSU was undeserving or anything like that. After the bowl games were played, OU was shown to be a pretender and LSU was the real deal. I'm just trying to show this Aub that the W/L column and SOS aren't the only things that matter.

I understand the treatment Notre Dame gets, but what grounds to you give in that season for leaving Oklahoma out? The reason Auburn was left out was low preseason ranking. Notre Dame wasn't even ranked in the preseason. I just don't see them making it even though they have a great name.

I think he is right Ross. Notre Dame can win their first game and break the top ten. It is amazing. I think they would have jumped OU.

hopefully Bama will not be left out of the Independence Bowl this year. They own that bowl game.

I don't think anyone is objecting to the fact that AU has owned us this decade. However, we've been pretty much even from 83-99.
I don't understand why everyone wants to compare stats after the Coach Bryant era. Yes I know he was in the past BUT we wouldn't have the great CFB without the past. Everything that happened in the past is what makes the future. I don't think it should constantly be brought up but we also shouldn't ignore the fact that he was a dominant coach.
Again, AU has dominated us this decade I will admit but if you're going to compare stats, use the entire record book, not just the years that benefit you!
