I'm not a fan of Long either. I knew this crap was going to happen when he hired JLS. He would have been better served to promote Tim Horton or Taver Johnson to interim coach. Arkansas would still suck, but we wouldn't be a weekly joke with the JLS sound bites and bankruptcy stories.

I thought things might actually be OK with JLS. One thing I didn't know was about his financial situation and when the fans found out, we still didn't know the extent of it. That's not our responsibility to know. It's Jeff Long's responsibility.

Ummm...didn't Long get Petrino here? Did he have to hire a proven snake of a man with a history of running out on teams? No

If he wanted to keep his job he did. Once Petrino's agent let it be known he wanted the job, Long would have been run out of town on a rail if he didn't hire him. Can you imagine what would have happened if he hired Bowden or Skip Holtz when Petrino was ready and willing to come. Remember, the only reason Grobe wasn't hired was because he backed out. It was a done deal on our side.

Petrino also didn't have a history of running out on teams, he didn't start getting that criticism until he left Atlanta. Every move he made was an upgrade that 99% of coaches would make.

That's another thing that pisses me off about Long. He knew about the bankruptcy and brought JLS in anyway. He had to know it would become a national story once it got out. I would think that as AD your first priority would be to keep Arkansas out of the news for anything other than football, especially after the Petrino mess.

and bring respect, instead we are the laughing stock of the nation. The butt of jokes, yet again.

It doesn't matter if he was the best choice. Long still made the decision to hire him. I would bet my fricking life that Broyles wouldn't have made that hire.

Long is the best there is. Logical guy who won't take a piece of trash lying to his face and putting the program's reputation at stake. Petrino was finished and Long did the best he could do with a shitty situation.

I agree. Jeff Long's a magnet for national attention and bullshite. Hell, he could have even waited a bit longer to get a feel for what the longer term ramifications would be for firing Petrino. He could have taken more time to do more thinking about what would be the right thing. I just don't think he gave it much thought and just wanted to get himself in the spotlight when the viewing audience was still hot. He needs a job in Washington.

Once again, Petrino wouldn't have survived this scandal at any SEC school, nor any top 25 program in all college football.

I'm not one of those that wanted Long fired because he fired Petrino. He did what had to be done. He has done a lot of other things that I have not been happy with. The track situation, keeping Pelphrey too long, and trying to hire Jim Grobe are my biggest complaints.

It also seems hypocritical to preach integrity when you fire a coach and then turn around and take a guy from another school (after spring practice is over, basically screwing them over), for an interim job, when you could have just promoted from within. That whole deal just didn't sit right with me.

He pretty much already has. Petrino will be hired at Kentucky or Louisville if Long hires Charlie Strong. I can almost guarantee you that Long is paying most attention to the opinion of the media and who they think is the most popular hire instead of really thinking about who is truly going to be the best hire.

In essence, "what will make the best news story". I'm going to predict Charlie Strong. In Long's mind, he's probably already mentally masturbating over the stories and possibilities. He probably thinks Petrino will be grateful, since Petrino actually liked Louisville almost as much as he likes Arkansas.

Long will get the best hire he can get. If Gruden is an option, he will be here. If not then Long will get the best coach that is available. Then it's on that guy to succeed, not Long.

Curious who the best hire is. Assuming you say Gruden, Long is trying everything in his power to get him. Who is 2nd?

I don't want Gruden. Gary Patterson would be a good hire, especially with Dick Bumpas. Holgorsen has only coached 1 year as head coach but would probably be a better hire than a lot of names floating around. There are others but I've never considered Gruden, not that I have anything against him. I just don't see him as a real option or even the best coach possibly available.

Those are my top 2 choices but I'm not Jeff Long either. I just hope he makes the best hire possible. I've never really trusted Long but that doesn't mean he won't hire a good coach. I just have my doubts, that's all.

You're by far and away the black sheep of the 'back clan here, and it's shite like this you can point to why we all want you to choke on vomit tonight.

I assume you're forgetting the 63-20 loss in Knoxville. Up until last week against Bama that day was the most pathetic effort and performance I can recall in my lifetime.

The effort of this season's team will not be a factor in who we hire.

Yes indeed. I want the person who is too stupid to realize that the lack of talent brought here by our last coach is at least partially responsie for this mess having any input into whether we keep our ad or not

We aren't lacking talent. Bobby Petrino might shite all over his own bed but Jeff Long's the type of guy who can crap all over your entire house and as a result, have you thanking him, while at the same time, make you believe he had no choice but to do his moral duty to shape the whole place up so it can be in better shape than it was before.
