What is this? A center for Ants? I don't want to hear any excuses. That building has to be...at least 3 times bigger than this.

Blackwell is a world-renowned architect. He happens to be a faculty member in the Architecture School. He does fantastic work.
Maybe it won't be horrible.
But I do get what you are saying. I am glad they are expanding and renovating other buildings in the area and keeping with the old architecture theme.

Oh, No.....
It looks like Prefab homes surround by a glass Coliseum....
Why would LSU build that thing?

The Gentlemen himself is not in question... The placement of the building mashed around other historical buildings is why I'm venting.
If they build in the limestone etc.. Maybe, just maybe..... it will turn out alright.
I just don't understand the thinking.. 1 Beautiful new sorority house to go with old ones, 1 new massive gate that belongs into this theme, the renovation of Peabody Hall and now Vol Walker but... including 1 ultra modern building attached to it....
Yes, I'm sure it will be amazingly nice inside and the few of the hills will be impressive but the building placement to me is well.. huh?
Point is.... Shouldn't this Ultra modern building go along with the Underground building in the works.... That could be the new Modern theme area.

Well they are just around the corner from each other.
I agree with you. He's got a huge ego.
It is funded and the work has already begun. Here's hoping for the best. But yeah, I don't have a problem complaining about it. Maybe if enough people bitch about it the planning people will not let something like this happen again.
Campus is only going to go get denser in the future with enrollment growth. There will be a lot of additions and new buildings put in places where they don't seem to belong.

If this building was on a different part of campus I understand being the Architecture building. Not in this area of campus.
Well at least we can agree it's not a free standing building which is a plus.. ha ha. I've loved all the new additions except this one was.. well.. you can't be serious and on the back of Vol Walker..

I'll check out that webcam link during the day tomorrow. When is the completion date?
How far on campus and you see?
All in All the campus is getting much better but that put a kink in my step of what I've seen lately. I know better than to think it's all going to be good, ha.

cam is on top of Old Main, and just shows the extension of Campus Walk and the gate area. Its pretty extensive. Supposed to be done in the spring.

Is the campus walk this wide?
It looks like a lot of work for one large gate.

They are redoing the lighting in that area to the old style ones they put up other places on campus, so new wiring. New landscaping, as those buildings now will face more into campus walk than before. They removed a lot of asphalt and a small parking area there, too.

I'm glad to hear that.
Do you have a picture of the lighting style? You seem on top of most of the renovations back home so I'm asking.

Welp, it could be worse I suppose.

wow, those renderings look horrible. it's a shame they would butcher a historic building like that. university of florida has a campus district that is on the national register of historic places. all new buildings in the district are required to meet certain architectural standards and complement the adjacent historic gothic buildings. the results have been mixed. some of the newer buildings blend in pretty well. others, not so much.
other parts of campus don't have this restriction, so the newer buildings in these areas tend to look more modern, i.e. ugly... like the building in those renderings.

I actually think it's one of the few decent examples of contrast... as opposed to those in the linked article.
Architectural Contrast in Schools

I want mini sections of campus with different grouping styles. I do not want an entire campus to the same yet nor do I want every building to be different.

why don't trees grow leaves in Arkansas?

People in Paris said the exact same thing when Pei designed the glass pyramid for the Louvre. They loved the finished product though because the contrast brings out both buildings' beauty even more.
