askew was a four star too I think.
just now checked - he was a 3 star. he's also redshirting this year (as a senior), which also shows our depth

Sounds kinda risky. If the OL gets to the second level, you're screwed

Yeah we'll see how it works out. The players seem to like playing in that formation. Hopefully opposing offenses don't like us playing in that formation.

Why not go out on a limb? Isn't that where the fruit is? ~Frank Scully

Of course it is risky, every defense you decide to run is risky.
With Nelson, Franklin, and Hightower at LB we feel like we have enough size and speed to support the run if it does get to the 2nd level.
5 guys up front, 3 of which go over 300lbs is going to cause some problems. An OL isnt going to just chip off and go get a LB witht that size in the middle.

I heard they are working on a super secret 9-2 defense. It should be really different.

quote:Disagree. I think that Bama's Oline is better than Arkansas's DLine. Arkansas's DL is much better than Oregon's though. Especially being anchored by Jake Bequette (Don't know how to spell his name) one of the SEC's, if not nations, premier pass rushers.
think they march up fairly even with Bama's Oline.

No more risky than the 0-11-0 Jack LB defense.

There was actually some decent football discussion happening in this thread until this clown showed up.

We have not looked the part so far. I'd say we have looked average in the first two games. I expect or hope to see Cyrus starting by the pig game allowing Jones to go back to his natural RG spot and put Steen back to second string.

Wouldnt you like to see that happen this week against UNT instead of Arkansas? Just so the kid can get those feet wet?

I think the added depth will help a LOT this year. I think I remember our DL doing pretty well against Bama last year but wearing out in the 4th quarter from lack of depth.
On a completely different note, watching the New Mexico replay, Robert Thomas was cracking me up on some of the double teams. On one in particular, two guys tried to go low on him, he put one hand on each guy's back, pushed them to the ground, and just held both of them on the ground. It looked like the defensive equivalent of two pancake blocks on one play.
