try what??
prove me wrong. There is a reason christians are the only ones to evangelize, and it's not to save the sinners or inform the supposed ill informed, or the ignorant.
The majority of atheists are not atheists because that's what they were told their whole life was right (many christians-it's because they made an educated informed decision.

Dear God. There are lots of kids at that age that get multiple traffic tickets, it really does not mean a dayum thing.

As for this horse shite that douchebag Thayer Evans printed: he won't name his sources. And guess what? If that is true (which UF has stated it is not) whoever told him that committed a Federal Crime.

no not at all from my view
but it's rather self serving I think would be the right way to put it. You say other coaches/staffs do this yet I have never heard a HS kid say the things coming out of AU.
Like other coaches aren't Christian. Usually the first one to say they are something "special" religion wise are the first to turn out to be frauds FWIW

This is the oldest recruiting tactic in the book btw. Didn't any of you see Blue Chips?

The Right Reverend has been postulating to his player for years. Which made it weird that him and Gus didn't get along. Two men of God who just want to hepp the kids.

quote:But you have to realize, a lot of teams do this (UGA for one, and there are many others). How many teams have team chaplains or coachess that lead a prayer service after the game? Have you ever stopped to wach after a home game, no matter what team you are for, and seen the players circle up on the field for a post game prayer?
The ONLY part about it that bothers me is that it appears they are using it as an opportunity to influence recruits.
Also, the religion thing doesn't influence the kids near as much as people want to make it out to be. If anything, it is a selling point with the parents/guardians of the kids. A lot of these kids come from not so great parts of town all over the south and are sometimes being raised by an aunt or grandmother. What better way than to get Nana (who is in church twice on Sundays and every Wednesday) on board with her sweet Pookie leaving the mean streets of so and so to go to school in Auburn, Athens, whereever than to know that the head coach and coaching staff are all good Godfearing Christians? The staff is the face of the program, you can't send the team chaplian out to in home visits, so you have to have the coaches be that religious face of the team.

It's because people like trooper taylor has no business acting like he is a good guy and praying just for recruting only...what a snake.

no this is where all this is failing for many of us dude.
So by your logic, Saban and Miles are suppose to be these young mens spiritual leader and their fb coach?
So you are good with Trooper playing the role of preacher in the locker room? Praying be4 practice and games is one thing dude, playing with a kids emotions based on religion is frankly, IMO unacceptable and as a LSU fan I would not want Miles or anyone else on the LSU staff overstepping a very thin line.
Just me dude, ya'll do what you want and ya'l will have to live with whatever comes from it down the road

No, once the kids get on campus and with the football team, then the team chaplain (Bro. Chette in AU's case) assumes the role of spiritual leader of the team. However, since he can't go out recruiting with the families, the coaches have to be the religious face of the team when meeting with the kids and their families.
Also, if you are going to be promoting a Christian atmosphere for your team, the coaches have to stong in their faith as well or else they become hypocrites. If you have your team chaplian telling kids to be honest, truthful, don't lie, cheat, etc. and the coaches are out slaughtering goats to Satan, that kinda sends a mixed up message.
It would be like a preacher telling the congregation on Sunday mornings to be a good God-fearing Christian when he was out cheating on his wife the night before.

I can understand if everyone is just having fun, but it seems there are some on here who are actually pissed that a coach is trying to put religion into football. Auburn is not the only school to do that.

I have no problem with the religion thing except its being used as a way to pay players, etc. ie. cecil newton. It is obvious he got money from somewhere, but doesn't have to report where it came from or who it went to. same for religious counselor's funds. Legal way to recruit players for money. Auburn was just the first to figure it out and has been doing it for awhile. source is an FBI connection.

Does BYU use their religious views to recruit kids? If so, that is sickening.
