Data! Data! Data! What was the relationship between he and his mother like? Was it turbulent? Were they close? What are the facts? One can not make any intelligent guesses until one has data.
I can easily understand why Dareus acted this way. My grandfather was like a second father to me. I saw him almost every day for just over 20 years. When he lay in the hospital dying, I couldn't bring myself to go watch him suffer. I closed myself off for an entire month until he died. That's just how I coped.

You are the kind of person that would bitch at the newspaper for writing a story on your kid's arrest rather than bitching at your kid for being an idiot.

Old news pal...and no, I don't feel the need to either defend or judge him. I don't know what the situation was within his family.

Is that a reference to the painting spread or a juvenile attempt at calling me a queer?
I would expect the latter from a Bama boy.

A point by point analysis of what was quoted in the OP. I don't feel like going through this guy's whole article and it looks like BlueDog quoted the pertinent info to get this guy's perspective.
The reason this article is shitty is because his logic and assumptions are incorrect when held up to scrutiny. They are gross exaggerations and mischaracterizations of the truth based on what is popular to think of Saban within the media. I would have much more respect for the guy's opinion if he just said that Saban shouldn't be putting down agents because he basically does the same thing with college athletes (i.e. uses their ability to enhance his career, reputation, etc.). But even that doesn't hold up under close examination because at least Saban teaches these young men the right way to do things. But the point could still be argued with the conclusion that Saban is just as much of a pimp as these agents. Any coach is.
Is he a hypocrite sometimes? Yep. The whole LeBron James comments were pretty ridiculous given the way he handled leaving the Miami job. If you want to be critical, I guess you could use this.
quote:I'd say this is a pretty big assumption. An incorrect assumption if you listen to any player (or his parents) that Saban recruits. They all say that he never promises them anything and he shoots straight with them.
If agents are no better than pimps, what does that make you and all those other suddenly sanctimonious college coaches who lie to kids while recruiting them in the first place?
quote:To use Alabama's history prior to Saban to implicate Saban as being a part of the problem is intellectually dishonest. He's done more to clean up Alabama's program more than anyone in the last decade or more. If one were to cite the textbook case as happening during his tenure, they would be incorrect in laying the blame at his feet. It was his administration that caught the mistake that was going on prior to his arrival. He did everything the right way in that case.
Nick Saban took home $4 million or so last year from Alabama, which has collected more probation-worthy violations (three) than any other high-profile football program in the country over the last two decades.
quote:I've never heard one complaint from any athlete that left our program. On the contrary, they all speak rather highly of him and the staff after they leave. Star Jackson is the most recent example.
"I have no respect for people who do that to young people. None," Saban continued. "How would you feel if they did it to your child?" Oh, I don't know, maybe the same way some parents felt when their son came home and told them you decided not to renew his scholarship, which undoubtedly said more about the caliber of athlete he is than whether he was a good student.
quote:All of those moves were perfectly logical and none of them could be construed as him being unloyal. Did he handle the Miami thing correctly, no. He's admitted as much. But for people to continue to use Saban's moves as some sort of evidence for him being unloyal is intellectually dishonest because they all make sense in terms of what he was trying to do with his career at those points.
Or maybe the way the parents felt when their kid came home and told them you were leaving Akron behind for Michigan State, then Michigan State for LSU, then LSU for the Miami Dolphins. And don't even get us started about leaving the Dolphins in the lurch, since you flat-out lied about leaving Miami. Loyalty can be a funny thing, no?

What the frick is all the "this guy is a nobody" talk about? I love the pretentious attitudes from people who spend so much time on a message board.. The guy made some valid points about Nick Saban calling the kettle black.. Of course UA fans won't agree, but hey that's life.. When Saban got on his soapbox to criticize agents who are trying to create an advantage over their competition, he opened himself up for this.. Doesn't Saban bend the rules in his recruiting tactics to one up other coaches? Give me a break.. Saban can suck a dick.. He's paid $4 million a year to manage the team and PLAYERS.. So maybe just keep a better check on them?

The point of the matter is a call to hold the agents to the same level we hold our players to. The whole checks and balances of the system is screwed up. That doesn't sell newspapers though, so let's attack Saban and his quote about pimps.
