i agree a run of success for a short period of time doesnt automatically make one job better than another however in this case i would say that bama/UT were on equal footing then UT had a 6 year run of success that Bama didnt match so having to pick one i would say Tenn was better
Now add in our possible NCAA sanctions and i would say they r on equal footing again. The sanctions will only be loss of 2-3 scholarships plus probation (but no postseason ban). That is not program destroying sanctions.

No. George Mason had one good year. The programs are not comparable. Tennessee has made the NCAA Tournament 6 years in a row and is 145-61 in that time frame. They also have a pipeline to the Atlanta Celtics running, a very nice four year old practice facility, and probably the best on campus arena in the nation.
You are right, I actually meant to say Gonzaga. which I think this is their 4th straight dance visit. Not sure why I said George Mason. Brain fart.

Gonzaga made their 12th straight NCAA tournament this year.

WHAT?!?!? Wow it doesnt seem like they have been going that long. Maybe its just that they just started making it fairly deep into the tourney the last 4 or so years.
Regardless, I dont consider THEM a better job than alabama either. Making my point even better imo.
Long day, just brain farted a customers ticket too.

Gonzaga is an interesting question
probably to know the answer I'd have to know more about how much money they generate and what kind of basketball facilities they have
If their basketball revenue and facilities are on equal footing to a school like bama or lsu? Then IMO you should prefer Gonzaga... it is just better to be the sport people care about

Until Cecil says oh shite guys, maybe you should worry, I'm not worried. We're upgrading Coleman, building an all new practice facility dedicated only to the men's basketball team, and he's getting 2 million a year so if he's unhappy then I don't know what else we could do.

I agree completely with the idea that a 6 year run like UT's vs. a 5 year drought that Bama has had is momentum that clearly puts UT ahead AT THE MOMENT.
The thing I think most Alabama fans take exception to is this idea that Tennessee is clearly a better job ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL. In other words, say UT was coming into the coaching search with a 5 year NCAA tourney drought of their own. People here seem to suggest that the ceiling is higher at Tennessee than Alabama when both schools in their best times have managed to accomplish almost identical milestones. Both have an Elite 8 while Bama has 9 Sweet 16s to Tennessee's 6. Tennessee has 8 or 9 SEC regular season titles to Alabama's 7 while Alabama has more SEC tourney titles. UT's run of consecutive NCAA tourney appearances couple with Bama's 5 year drought now means both schools have been to 19 NCAA tournaments each.
I'll grant the fact that Tennessee has a larger arena that has been nicely renovated. I'm not crazy about Coleman Coliseum but it is much cleaner and spruced up since the last renovation and seats more than half the conference. Alabama is also in the process of building a brand new practice facility for basketball as well so facilities aren't quite as good as Tennessee's but they're not bad at all either.

The deepest they've made it is the Sweet Sixteen. They did that in 2000 and twice since.

Didnt they make the Elite 8 like a year or 2 ago? I thought I remembered that.

I know they did this year before the season started, but I'd assume once our practice facility is finished being built that they'd only go over there unless they got bored and wanted to show off to the regular students.

Nope. Gonzanga has only made it the Sweet Sixteen, doing so in 2000, 2001, 2006, and 2009.

Who was that kid with the scumstache that played for them in 09? That was the year I was thinking they went to the elite 8. Must have just been the 16.
Posted on 3/24/11 at 5:29 pm to ThaKaptin
Adam Morrison? font that that was 09 though
Posted on 3/24/11 at 5:31 pm to RammerJammerBammer
Thats him. That kid looked about as awkward with the basketball as anyone I have ever seen. I think that might have been why he was so good, defenders looked at him like he was retarded and then he just went past them. ROFL

If Grant ever leaves Bama, it will be for a top 10 job, not UT. He has near 100% fan support after not even making the NCAA and makes 2 mil a year. UT gonna offer 3.5 or something? Bama returns a better team than UT has coming back, and Grant has a good class coming in. There is absolutely no logical reason he would take the UT job.
