Bad thing for them, is that the Big 12 keeps going backwards. They've catered and given so much to Texas, at the expense of their conference and progress, it's cost them possibly this year and will in future yrs. I can see a scenario where there are undefeated teams from the SEC, Big Ten and Big 12 and the Big 12 gets overlooked again, because they dropped a conference championship game.
I don't know when other conferences will learn to use the SEC as a model for progress. The Pac 10 and Big 10 refused for yrs under the Bowl Coalition before they finally saw the light with the advent of the BCS

A plus one playoff this year would just result in LSU arse whipping Stanford and Bama curb-stomping OSU before they meet for the championship. The Big 12 thought it was a trick and that Slive was trying to put one over on them. SEC had been left out in 2004 (Auburn) and wanted to keep that from happening again. Now that SEC is dominating I don't expect an undefeated SEC team would ever be left out. OSU is actually better off this year claiming that they were jobbed rather than bringing the 107th rated defense to a gunfight.
