The red line parallel to the yard marker.

And it looks like it fits between the ball and the stick. It seems a bit thick as well and seems to be covering the space between the ball and stick. Said another way, one side of the red line touches the nose of the ball while the other side nudges the yardage stick.

I have no clue how they didn't move the ball spot based on the replay.

That picture isn't very clear, but it appears to confirm that it was indeed short.

Yep, that's what it looks like to me, too.

Even the Michigan people agree it was a blown call. Read any report from their media or Rivals homepage.

I was at the game. Obviously I couldn't see the ball and the chains close enough to have any idea what was going on. It was very strange to watch the players and coaches on both sides. Clearly neither side knew what was going on -- the USC bench erupted when the ball was placed short of the chain, while the Michigan players were clearly deflated. And then the Michigan side erupted when the ref signaled for the first down.

I think you are the first person that has defended the call.

The spot was also terrible, they were a good foot short in actuality.

Even homer Michigan sites like Maize and Brew openly state it was a terrible call.
