I think that’s where things are leaning if it stays at 8 games.

But, there’s a conference schedule model on the table that would preserve multiple annual rivalry games for at least some SEC schools, even within an eight-game conference schedule format.

Keep in mind that head coaches, in all conferences, are all girly men these days. They think only about wins and playoffs, so they are calibrated for least resistance.
If they could get their way, they would schedule 4 FCS teams for their OOC schedule each year. They have little regard for what fans have to pay for at all these Sisters of the Poor conventions we call home games. (Please see Lane Kiffin and "Eli" Drinkwitz man up for reference.) They need to dress their teams in pink and just be honest with their fans.
Here you go.
I think half the conference would leave, I'm just not sure which half..

This is actually pretty great though.

It doesn't have to be equal. Some teams can have 2 permanent rivals, some can have only one, and some can have zero, and just rotate through everybody more quickly.
Would a school like Kentucky be pissed if UGA got UF and AU permanently, but Kentucky didn't get anyone permanently?
I'm down for whatever. It does sound like format might have some legs, which is good. Losing some of those games would suck.
I just like solving puzzles, but every time I start this exercise, I am reminded quickly that their are a million different voices with a million different opinions, even within each fan base, and it's actually impossible to solve this puzzle and make everyone happy.
But I like puzzles, so I try anyways..

Pretty good. I interviewed with your mom again today, the 6th interview this week.. I thought it went really good, but we will see.

Yeah, unfortunately LSU is “in limbo” as to perms.

Rotate everyone! Only way for the schedules to remain fair!

So as an Auburn fan, you don’t care about playing Georgia and Alabama every year?
The fairest way is to have two divisions each year. That way, half the teams pretty much play one schedule, and the other half pretty much plays another schedule.
Since there are too many teams to have the same divisions each year, the best way is to change up the divisions each year every two years whatever to make it work.. depending on the number of games..
That’s my opinion at least.. if done right you can incorporate everybody’s permanent opponents within that framework.

As we all know, a 1-7 isn't doable with all of the different rivalry games that need to be played.
of course it is, nobody has 2 games they must play every single year.

I didn’t say it was life-changing or that the world would implode if it didn’t happen, but I do feel like rivalries in college football are what make college football great..
I just went through this for the last 12 years, and it sucked.. I never wanted the game to stop.
Nebraska versus Oklahoma suffered a similar fate and it’s just not the same even when it’s played now..
So if the goal is to make those games less important in the future, then I understand your viewpoint.
Either way, I know that Texas and Oklahoma will play even if it’s out of conference, we did every year from like 1930 something to 1995. I just don’t want to see games like Alabama, Tennessee, or Georgia Auburn or any of those games go away.
But I’m done discussing it again. It never goes anywhere so until next time cheers.

I like 9 games. But Texas has a balanced home/away with OU as neutral site. That 5th away game for a playoff contender could be bad news.

So you want Tulane back as one of LSU rivalry.
They have a Tulane now, it's just called MIZ-ZOU.

Loved seeing "Colonel Reb" for Massa Wife. It's an abomination what Ole Miss has allowed the Politically Correct Police to unleash on their school. They just bent right over and took it dry without even putting up any resistance. Shameful and disgusting!

Beg to go to the Big 12? You’re insane. We may get relegated somewhere in the future but hopefully not with KState, KU, Iowa State and the lot. I’d rather be in a league with Memphis, Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, Tulane and the like.
Arkansas
Arkansas State
Memphis
Southern Miss
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Tulane
Vanderbilt
Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Monroe
Louisiana Lafayette

I'm partial to rotating two divisions. With that option you finish complete home and aways with everyone at least once every six years. You also have three regional permanent opponents you play every year.
Something like
Western:
Texas
Oklahoma
Arkansas
Missouri
Southern:
LSU
A&M
Mississippi
MSU
Northern:
Alabama
Tennessee
Kentucky
Vanderbilt
Eastern:
Florida
Georgia
Auburn
South Carolina
Play your home and away with each regional group and rotate every two years. Since that gives seven conference games you also play one or two of your preferred out of region opponents to make either 8 or 9 regular season conference games.
Preferred out of region opponent suggestions in parentheses:
Texas (A&M, Tennessee, Georgia)
Oklahoma (LSU, Alabama, Florida)
Arkansas (Mississippi, Vanderbilt, Auburn)
Missouri (MSU, Kentucky, USC)
LSU (Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama)
A&M (Texas, Auburn, Tennessee)
Mississippi (Arkansas, Georgia, Vanderbilt)
MSU (Missouri, USC, Kentucky)
Alabama (Auburn, Oklahoma, LSU)
Tennessee (Georgia, Texas, A&M)
Kentucky (Florida, Missouri, MSU)
Vanderbilt (USC, Arkansas, Mississippi)

Georgia (Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi)
Auburn (Alabama, Arkansas, A&M)
USC (Vanderbilt, Missouri, MSU)

Not really. I'd care more about Alabama than Georgia.
College football is just so different now.

Sort of like my pod idea:
Y1 - AB vrs. CD
Y2 - AC vrs. BD
Y3 - AD vrs. CD
Y4 - Y1 sites flipped
Y5 - Y2 sites flipped
Y6 - Y3 sites flipped
