I knew one of you yanks would bring that up.

Nobody really even talks about that..except y'all.

EVERYBODY knows that we were the first to secede and that the Battery in Charleston was where the first shots were fired in the Confederate War.

Sorry we get more attention than y'all.

First off, Oxford has become disgustingly Yankee. Athens was never really Southern. Lexington is probably tied for 2nd.

So is Kentucky, technically, but Kentuckians don't really act like your typical Yankee.

Technically, you're incorrect. Technically, the fricking Ohio River serves as a continuation of the Mason-Dixon Line. Technically, Kentucky is beneath that line. And technically, Kentucky seceded and was represented as a star on the confederate flag.

You know how I know you are a Yankee? Because in the other thread you called me a Georgia "hillbilly." The only people who use that term are Mid-western......Yankees.

You got that right my trailer park dwelling friend!

There may be a lot of northern intellectual academics who have decided to call it home, but Oxford itself and the architecture that make it up, along with the outskirts, are very much still old school Southern.

Dear KaiserSoze99,

Thank you for your interest in our rankings. I regret to inform you that nobody gives a shite about your thoughts on the matter.

Sincerely,

Not bad at all.

I only disagree with Oxford being that high. Put Oxford below Athens and you're good.

I have, several times, if that was the insinuation.

I spend tons of time in Athens in week long intervals. I LOVE Athens. Athens is it's own mix of counter-culture, music, Atlanta, etc. It is an awesome place, but I do not show up there and think of it as super "Southern".

Same. It's tranquil, pretty, but I don't think of it as super southern. It isn't "yankee", but I think it more as Mid-South.

I agree with you. I really like Athens, but it's not really Southern in my opinion.

I would agree with that. Its obviously the mid south geographically, and I would be offended were someone to tell me they felt it gave off a Deep South vibe.

Kentucky will always be my #1 Southern state because they make all the good bourbon.

I said technically because I am aware the state was a member of the Confederacy, however, Kentucky supplied as many troops to the north as they did the south. Kentucky is largely the reason why Lincoln didn't pronounce the Emancipation Proclamation until he did. He wanted to make sure Kentuckians wouldn't completely revolt.

First of all ... the dot on your map for the real Columbia is up around Greenville - so there's that.

Secondly ... there is nothing else that matters, with regard to this conversation, other than the celestial blessings bestowed upon true Southern members by the football gods as established in the geographical record illustrated by the Southeastern Star, which can be seen from space BTW.

Last but not least .... Columbia, SC and Athens, Georgia are on almost the identical same northern latitude, with minutes of one another.

You may want to redo your list based upon actual geographical facts, using latitude, rather than a shitty graphic that is poorly done.
