Last years championship team had two losses and wouldn't have made the playoffs at all 5 years ago.
It has made for a much more exciting season and a wide open shot for teams that never would have even had a chance just a few years ago.
The top 8 teams are very close and any could get hot and win it all.
Because we use to have the greatest regular season in all of sports where every game felt like a playoff game because every game matter. If you got a single loss, then your chances at a NC were greatly reduced. You at a minimum lost control over your destiny and needed other teams to lose.
The rankings every week mattered because it showed your pecking order. The games every week mattered, and not just your own games, but every game basically. Either another team from another conference needed to lose to open up a spot, or certain and wins and losses could have an impact on strength of schedule which would also affect your rankings.
What was one of the biggest games of 2011? Oklahoma St and Iowa St. That game had huge national championship implications. If OK St wins that game, LSU is probably national champions.
Because every game was like a playoff game and every game mattered. Before that, the LSU vs Alabama game that Alabama lost was basically season ending for Alabama. Lost complete control of our destiny and that miracle of a game by Iowa St saved it.
You'll never experience a season like that. You lost to Georgia and it's like - no big deal, we're still in it because we can have a mediocre season and still win it. Alabama can lose to LSU this weekend for not the first loss, but the second loss and Alabama is still in it because 2 loss teams are still in it.
You can celebrate that if you want, but I think it's extremely shitty and like so many other things in this sport, it's been turned into a series of participation trophies just to include more people in what is mostly delusion.
Right this moment Alabama should be on the outside looking in, not sitting comfortable able to absorb another loss and be fine. I can deal with that reality, you can't.

How often was that gonna happen though when Saban was there? Y’all lost in 2011 and it still didn’t matter because the BCS had y’all playing LSU again. No team benefitted more from the BCS system than Alabama.

Ultimately it "didn't matter" because we got the rematch, but when you are living through the season it all mattered a lot.
That was not at all the way things felt as it was happening. Unlike this weekend if we lose to LSU I know it doesn't actually matter. And I think that sucks.

The national championship used to be a beauty contest and political exercise.
Now you must prove it on the field.
More games matter to more teams than ever before.
Cry about it.

No, those are excuses people like you make because you can't cope with the reality.
The fact that we went from it being beneficial to be in a strong conference like the SEC to where it's now a benefit to be in a weak conference pretty much highlights how bad the current system is.
The fact the SECCG was previously a nice additional game to provide a bump to the winner to win a NC is now a game that is better off avoided completely highlights how bad the current system is.
You're claiming people need to prove it on the field now, while losing multiple games during the season and still being contenders. I guess what you really mean is prove it on the field for these few games, when previously you had to prove it on the field all season long.
Lowering the standards so you can feel included doesn't mean improvement.

I didn't make an excuse.
I stated facts.
It upsets you, I understand.
Write another novel venting about it.

Should I start pretending like playoff national championship are mythical and don't count?

I mean, you can.
They'd carry as much weight as your personal list you keep in your trapper keeper.
Clown.

Football is a lot less fun when so many conclusions are foregone. When there is a not insignificant chance that one of the best teams in the SEC could lose to one of the worst, games are more fun. Tons of one score games this year. Personally, I love it.
Is it a blast because of parity or are you just enjoying the best season yall have had in almost a century?

Derpity derp derp.
I dont keep my own personal list of legit national champions.
I just use the one provided by the NCAA or Wiki or any number of publications.
Hence, I have no trapper keeper to put a mirror inside.
You do, clown.

There is no list of legitimate national championships, that's why I keep one and publish it here.

There's no list of legit national champions?
Wow.
Oh, yours is THE list.

I just keep the list, I didn't set the criteria for it.
You can direct your tears towards Notre Dame, although I doubt you would understand why.

Im not the one crying about which schools can claim what titles which year.
I dont care enough to make a list. Im definitely not delusional enough to think that I should decide.
That'd make me some kind of narcissistic clown.
Sound like anyone you know though? Just curious.
Lmao.

Just seems like the topic of national championships is new to you. It's a topic I've been talking about for over 50 years.
Again, if you don't like the criteria I use, then blame Notre Dame. They are the ones that set it. It's not my fault it was basically the standard in college football until about 15 years ago when people started claiming crazy shite.
If I had started counting them 15 years ago, Alabama would have likely been the only team with a bogus claim.

I dont give a crap about your list or Notre Dame.

I guess parity is interesting.
What I find interesting is turning on a game and seeing one of OU's former players playing for some other team... and I didn't even realize he was even at that team.... because he has transferred a couple of more times since he left OU.
